I am using Blender portable edition 2.93.3
Blenderfds 5.1.0

I have imported my FDS geometry which is a mixture of obstructions and holes. I then wish to export this as an STL file to aid visualizations when post processing in Paraview.

When I export the FDS model any holes appear as obstructions so rather than for example an opening in a wall I have solid block either side of the wall. Is there a setting I can use which will model the holes as holes rather than solid blocks. When looking at the model in Blender the holes appear to be wireframes and so holes don't appear visually as they would be expected to in smokeview.

Any thoughts on what setting I am missing?

Many thanks
Jo

Hi,
First of all the version you are using is very old.

FDS HOLEs are implemented in BlenderFDS as regular Objects. So you're not missing anything. This is the way it should be, they are exported as solids.

If you wish so, you could boolean subtract the HOLE objects from the walls in Blender, and obtain the carved geometry.

Many thanks for getting back to me. I know the set up is old and it is on my to do list to upgrade both. However, Blender version was dictating where I go with the add in. This may just give me the push to actually get on with it and upgrade them both.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding boolean subtraction. I will give that a try and see how it goes.

Best regards
Jo

Boolean worked a treat once I managed to learn enough Blender to use it. Give exactly the behaviour I wanted. Many thanks for the tip.
