I know we now have cycles but its still maturing.  This is quite amazing to see such result from BI.

Looks fantastic...
Cycles is not too good with interior renders because path tracing is more suited for outdoor. I usually work around this with using AO + Limited GI setting for Cycles. This clears the noise significantly.

Its been moons ago since I did any Blender.  I remember back in 2007-2008, I took a job to do interior for a ceramic company and my only re-course was Yafaray.  Makes me wonder why Yafaray never really took off as an alternative render engine for Blender.  Later on, I got into LuxRender but the waiting time is too long until SmallLux comes around that uses AMD OpenCL GPU.  Furthermore, Lux accepts IES light information which helps in realistic lighting.

@Sim: Have you worked with Yafaray before?  What's the hindrance for adoption (other than extra effort to install and convert)?

Hi Victor,

I have 'play' with Yafaray before. IMO, Yafaray is pretty good .. but suffered from the following:

1. Poor documentation. In fact, I created a Blender 2.5 version for my own usage and is downloadable from my website... http://www.studiorola.com/tutorials/miscellaneous/yafaray-for-blender-2-5-2-6-pdf-ebook/
because i cant find documents of relevance to Blender 2.5 +++
2. Compare to Cycles... it has a slow preview.
3. Material creation is not as flexible as the newer renderers.

Regards

Sim

Hi Sim:

LOL. you've just jolted my memories.  I remembered that book.

so it seems like for Blender, its just getting Cycles to be ready to render everything Blender has to offer.  I am hoping they would read IES data as well. Its a life saver in LuxRender.
