Hey how's everybody doing?

What do you guys use nowadays to outsource your rendering?

Respower is giving me a lot of problems lately (like the past month)
Their servers are often down and you don't know what's going on on their side.

Bought a USD 250 day pass from them yesterday and haven't been able to
log in since last night.

:-(

I have never used them before for produciton, but I did try out a pre-Green Button  service for a weta studio ray gun blender design competition before  many years back. Don't know how good they are, you can check them out.

I was using Greenbutton before Respower.
They were fast, fairly reliable, and -very- responsive on email.

Then I realised that Respower was cheaper and gave you a lot more
control and info on your job.
Just generally more "open" in handling your job. Easier to download
your frames too. Except when their servers vanish into thin air.....

Sorry, can't help you there as I mostly help people build renderfarms.
Just curious, how much rendering power do you need? And which
rendering engines are you using?

Very roughly, this particular assignment would have taken maybe 2 long
working days, using the 2 machines I have available to me.
Respower finished the rendering last night in about 4~6 hours. I just
couldnt access their FTP to grab my frames.

What I did today was render at a lower res (1280 x 720 > 640 x 360),
using my notebook and another desktop. That was maybe 1 work day.

Example frames:
1177.png took ~13 sec. (transparency slowed it down a lot)
3094.png was probably ~ 8 sec.

I'm quite inefficient in some ways.
For example I allocate a fixed number of frames per "step" in the
video (for easy planning), even though in final video editing some
steps will be sped up.
I'm quite ready to spend the money to render the redundant frames,
since it's relatively affordable for us (compared to spending human
time)
I also need the rendering / editing stages to be fast and fuss-free,
since I usually dont have much time for amendments.
