Hi guys!

I came a cross this video clip from pixar (well it's more of an autodesk), and its topic is about OpenSubdiv project. I'm not even sure who started this project (I was not paying attention to the whole details hehe), but it looks very good!

I was able to watch up until the Adaptive tessellation part (near the middle part of video), I'm not sure if that's already in Blender, coz I haven't touched blender for a while, and I'm very impressed!! It's a cool way of subdividing geometry. (Please tell me if that's already in blender :p)

The video is 41mins+ long, so it's a bit lengthy (haven't watched the entire video myself! haha) I'll continue watching it tomorrow.

Its a great technology to have and you will be surprised its been several years old and have been in RenderMan for quite some time.  To put a GUI on top of it and make it live and easy to use it what Autodesk did.  If there is enough demand for it I believe Ton would very likely look into it. A lot of the Blender comments are making Blender users look bad. At the end of the day, these are just tools, no matter what abilities it has, it is the user who makes stuff look good. This is impressive technology indeed, to be able to adaptively subdivide geometry based on your camera view. The next goal would probably be real time fully rendered fully lit interactivity which I think is very close now.

This is great news for all of us!!

Pixar have released the opensubdiv license (it's compatible with blender's license), and it will be implemented in blender!

Whoohoo for us!
