Hey Fellow Blenderers:

Dalai Felinto is promoting his new book co-writtten with Mike Pan.  If anyone of you know anyone that is interested do spread the word:

Furthermore, if any learning institution that is using or interested in using the BGE for whatever reason, he would love to have their contacts so that the publisher can reach them.

Cheers!!!
Victor Yap.

Looks like a really cool book.

I did a review of a Blender Game book from PackTub a while ago.

I can write a post about this one on my website and put a link to http://www.dalaifelinto.com/?p=930... as well... if they give me some time to browse it

Regards

Sim

Hey Sim:

That will be great.  Do inform us when you blogged the review.  Hope your school is thinking of using it.  It will be a great boost for both the authors and Blender.

Cheers!!!

Hi Victor,

Here is the page about the Book ... http://www.studiorola.com/news/new-blender-game-engine-book-by-dalai-felinto-and-mike-pan/

Sorry, am not able to review the book as i have no access to it... so the page is just a short post leading to their link page.

As for the schools that I am teaching it, i think the product-design related ones may be abit hard to crack... as the relevance to them is quite minimal. Nevertheless, I will ask them when the school semesters starts again.

Best regards

Sim

Hi Sim.

Looking forward your review! I just cc Mike into this converisation! :)

And I'm planning to translate this book into Chinese and import into China. Here's a link from BlenderCN forum discuss on this plan and looking forward market request. Link I'm also looking for associates to help to complete this mission quick and nice.

I'm not sure about the education material in Singapore, but I think most of book in school should be in English not in Chinese is that right?

Cheers!

Hi Ethan,

Wow... that is exciting.

To me, i think the Game engine has a much wide application than for game creation. I think, it can be used for applications where realtime interactivity is essential. For example, some of my clients use game engine/interactive programs to create interactive training materials... an example is here..http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-rRL71KV4NE   that was created some years ago. For this project, it was used to teach students about some water treatment system. For the project, we used Blender (2.4x) for creating the 3D model and textures (via baking)... the client took the assets and inject interactivity using a separate realtime engine.

For me, the Game engine should be rename as something like realtime / interactive engine so as to attract a wide potential user. LOL

As for the educational materials in Singapore, most of them are in English. Also, for most Chinese Singaporeans, our Chinese proficiency is only conversational, especially the younger generation.

By the way, your Blender Definitive Guide is very useful to me... it is now my primary reference book for Blender. Thanks.

Regards

Sim

Hi Sim,

Thanks for your information. The VR demo looks interesting. And in my mind, game engine is just ready for demo production and education only so far. Maybe it will be improved strong enough in the future for commercial use.

I just talked with several editors in Chinese publishers. Most of them rejected my propose in gentle as they have no idea about the marketing and compare to the cost of importing a book out of China which is very high. The only marketing reference for them is my book but they don't know how far this BGE book will go because they believe this is a very narrow topic. I don't know what to do but I will keep looking for any publisher to try if they would love to support Blender in China.

I'm happy that book is still useful for your work. :)

and let's see how things will go for the GSOC project for the BGE. If that ends well it'll make an interesting development.

Downloading it now to check it out.
