i have a similar situation. im running everything on and old Xeon serve with Windows server 2016. Im trying to move over to unraid on an old gaming rig, 8700k and a 1070 which will handle everything much better. windows server is staying on current server for automated centralised backups and bare metal restore function.
i could run everything in a VM on unraid because my Blue iris (cctv) setup needs a windows environment anyway. or i could run blue iris on the vm and plex in a docker or option 3 is i run windows to for plex and blue iris and have a separate (3rd) server just for unraid and use that for centralised media storage.
i have asked about the advantage and i was told that errors that occur in a docker stay contained as they are their own environment but im not sure thats a good enough reason because ive had no issues running plex inside windows for years.
First, the reason I'm looking to launch the Windows 10 Plex APP is that it has controller support, while the browser version does not. So I downloaded the app. Took control of Windowsapps folder in Program Files, found the Plex App exe, but apparently when clicking the exe for windows apps, you get an error:
It's confusing, I know. The plex app is downloaded from the windows store. If you download plex from the website, it installs the media server, and you can access it by the icon in the taskbar. Clicking the latter will open plex in a browser. The app opens it's own program, no broswer.

DOS you are the man. So simple! I should have asked first, save me the trouble of breaking in to that windows apps folder, which is unduly a pain. Thanks! I'll try this as soon as I get off of work.

Hi, I have a problem where the Plex server in my My Cloud Home loses all metadata from time to time. It looks this is a documented problem that happens often. I notice however that the Plex server makes a backup copy of the library metadata in the following folder:
/data/user/0/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases
First find the app. You can do this by bringing up the program run dialog in Windows 10 (windows key + R) and running Shell:AppsFolder (the capitalisation is important). This will show the Windows Apps folder. Find Plex and create a shortcut to it on the desktop by either dragging it or right-clicking. View the properties of this ShortCut (see below).
HI , for the second time in the space of a month or so i have tried the update from 6.5 to 7.1 on server 2012 essentials R2 both times i blocks the connection to plex server , even when i add exceptions to the folder and the exe . this was not the case with 6.5 it worked fine, an uninstall and reinstall does not work either in both cases i need to restore from an earlier backup.
Please advise
