I'm trying to convert a bunch of CBR 320 Kbps Mp3 to VBR 0 (max quality), using lame command in bash. However, it seems like lame can't overwrite existing files. It would be much faster that way, as I could use wildcards to do it on an unique, short terminal command, plus I wouldn't have to delete the old files and rename the new.
Plus the cost of tidal is pretty high here. I could buy 1-2 brand new CDs every month for what tidal cost or a lot of used CDs. Which is something I personally rather would do, since I don't really listen to a lot of new music. Even if I find 10 new songs I like in a single month, then it is cheaper for me to buy those 10 individual songs on 7digital.
Well I am used to 1000kbps or higher with a good master, plus with the gear I have now, then it is pretty easy for me to tell if it's a 320 file or one of my flac files.
Tidal master's are weird at times. Sometimes they will try and push this MQA upon you, which is like a middle ground between 320 and like a normal flac 16/44.1 with a bit rate of about 1000kbps. I don't know why but MQA gives some songs a very different tone at times, almost like the pitch changes.
If you don't have MQA gear then with some songs you can hear a difference between CD and tidal, but IMO less obvious than MQA and CD. First time I noticed it was with some Volbeat songs a long time ago now, where the guitar sounded a bit different when listening to tidal vs the CD or CD rip. I personally tend to prefer the CD and CD rip over tidals song, at least with the ones where I have noticed a difference.

It seems to be any WAV file.
Ones from Audacity, my Zoom H2N, my Zoom H6 ... It just doesnt work and they all end up sounding like the video I posted above.
Now using a work around of converting everything to FLAC just to get it to work :(
This is pretty much spot on for what Im experiencing - I have a copy of Vegas 11 still here so I am thinking about installing it along side 17 if that wont cause an issue or conflict and see how it goes on this system.
Its the same audio interface I was using on my old PC so even that worked flawlessly for over 3 years so cant point the finger there - and like above if I convert the WAVs to MP3 or FLAC and replace them on the timeline everything works 100%
