I invite you to walk with me in the fight to end blindness. On June 6th, this Saturday, the Foundation Fighting Blindness will host National Virtual VisionWalk to raise money to fund research into retinal degenerative diseases. One of these conditions caused my own legal blindness. Stargardt's, which is like the age-related macular degeneration afflicting so many older friends and family members, struck when I was a small child. The Foundation Fighting Blindness has made the dream of a cure in my lifetime a reality with clinical trials for gene therapies and stem cell treatments for a wide range of inherited retinal conditions.
I have accepted the challenge of participating in VisionWalk, a big step in boosting research for retinal degenerative diseases, hosted by the Foundation Fighting Blindness! I am asking for your help and support in my fund-raising efforts by walking with me, either in person or in spirit.
Jennifer Finney Boylan described the restoration of her sight so eloquently in a NYTimes OpEd, "so it was not just my vision that my childhood friend brought back to me. It was a sense of brightness and hope." Please help bring that "sense of brightness and hope" to me and to all our friends and family (and neighbors) who suffer from retinal degeneration.
I ask you to Join me at the Virtual VisionWalk. There are many ways to celebrate the day, including the online events. My wife, Mindy, and I will participate in these as well as walk through the neighborhood proudly wearing our VisionWalk team shirts!
