I'm very frustrated. I am completing a graduation ceremony video for our high school. Got it done in proshow producer, which I've been using for 5 years now. Published it, sent it out to our admin and now changes need to be made. Once I made the changes, I went to republish it. Now it won't republish without a watermark stating its an evaluation. I purchased this and all the upgrades. When I try my old activation keys its says their not recognized. So like other's I decided to go to Photopia director, since it was recommended. Everything moved over just fine, but I can't publish the d*** thing. I needed this, like, yesterday. I have a group of seniors that really need this to boost their moral. I put in a support request, but am waiting to hear back. I have shut off my virus protection during publishing, turned off background running apps, but it will only give me up to the first 8 minutes (its 28 minutes long).
Now that I've entered the registration information, when I export I'm no longer seeing just a watermark, the entire video shows a message: "This software may be in use illegally." And leads me to this unhelpful link: . Anyone else? Has anyone exported successfully?

I searched and found this forum on behalf of a friend who is a long time supporter of Proshow Gold and has paid for every update until the last version. She creates slide shows to entertain seniors and relies of the app to do her work. When it suddenly reverted to a Trial version earlier this week she was understandably very upset and this morning when I told her that the 'validation' servers were now back on line she was relieved. She entered her serial number and the app came back to life.
I have been using computers for many years and have never (or rarely) heard of an app that will 'call home' after a valid registration code has been entered. I can understand that an activation server is needed when doing a re-install ... but not after the app is properly activated!
When Adobe acquired Macromedia they provided perpetual keys to all registered users and those special keys (similar to what beta testers use) would never expire and did not require an activation server to validate them.
I have the same problem that others are having... I can't publish anything after having this program run for years now. I really hate this now... I am not going to sign on to anything else with these people. After paying in good faith that I had ownership of the program that have closed it and stopped it from running. I have a good mind to complain to the BBB and AG of Texas... I have had ProShow Gold for years and now all I see is this program maybe running illegally...REALLY... what's illegal is the company stopping so many people from using their software that they have purchased. I am up-set!!
We're right there with everyone on these ProShow activation issues. Hopefully, they'll get those activation servers working properly again at some point so that everyone who wants to continue working with ProShow can do so. Unfortunately, we don't have any control over their servers / infrastructure.
If you really didn't keep a copy of (or cannot find) your activation key you might consider using a utility such as Belarc Advisor which will show what serial numbers you have associated with the software installed on your computer and it might reveal your Proshow Gold activation key even if the software itself is not properly recognizing it. You could then reactivate it on the now working activation/validation server.
I have reached for hours looking for my registration number I can't find it. I have found email when they there CompuPic and even the exe. file for both ProShow Gold and CompuPic Slidshow but not registration number. I am going to start looking for something else to use... I can not continue on like this. Does many one know of something else?
you know for the first post here in this Forum, you talking like someone work for photopia, the people like me and like many owner of software, hope in some support but look like this is impossible despite we hope. And of course all people unhappy owner of Photodex, never give a cents to photopia, one because many people hate the subscription, two because we already spent money for a software that a this time are unusable!
With respect, Your post doesn't help. It sounds like someone with an interest in Photopia trying to patch up what is clearly a very botched Customer Relations situation. Anyone reading the thread thus far knows the history and can switch to Photopia if they wish, but this is not the issue that has lots of ProShow users justifiably angry.
It's simply not credible that the developers of the original ProShow applications can't find a way around this issue. If Photodex is now defunct as a company and they attach any value to their reputation as developers (ie expect to take their Proshow users with them) then they need to act fast and:
As anyone who has run a company should know, acquiring new customers is countless times more expensive than keeping existing ones. The owner(s) of Photopia have so far managed to alienate possibly all the Photodex users who will in time find their original purchase (not to mention the effort integrating it into their workflow) is useless.
Why would they imagine that we would have anything to do with people who could allow this situation to happen when the solution could cost them virtually nothing to implement and get a lot of experienced users to at least give Photopia a chance?
As several posts have pointed out, not only is the slideshow/presentation market changing, but there are plenty of other programs around. It does occur to me that the previous owner of Photodex is no longer on speaking terms with the developers who left, but that doesn't stop them from taking option (3) above.
If the bolded above is true, how do you figure that the former developers who worked for Photodex in the past have any legal right to handle the Photodex code or any access to Photodex property (customer records)?
They can legally produce a "work alike" program that can handle files produced by Photodex products, just like any company can create a program that can handle Adobe PDF files. But they can't legally use the Photodex code itself, nor do they have legal access to Photodex customer records. They are a wholly separate company.
That's good to hear, but it feels like you're in the minority. I have the original setup file for my copy of PS Gold and it doesn't work. In any case it is Photopia's lack of engagement that is disappointing and damaging for their prospects.
@RD Kirk: Photodex Corporation is permanently closed according to the announcement on it's website. Assuming that means it no longer exists as a legal entity, it can't have any assets so I doubt there would be any flack caused by Photopia helping out their old customers especially since they warmly recommend visitors to move over to the Photopia product. Anyway, collecting data from unhappy Photodex users is a no brainer and doesn't require access to old records.
@ Ian Yorke: I don't get as far as entering any registration details. A quick initialising message appears on the monitor and nothing further happens. This is from running the file pxsetup.exe which is in the Photodex/ProShow Gold folder in Programs x86. Unsurprisingly, after 4 years I don't have whatever the zip file was that I got from Photodex originally!
