I'm looking at the FL plugins and wondering what's the big differences between Pitch Shifter and NewTone? Are they equivalent? is one better than the other? Are they complimentary. Never used pitch editing plugins before so i'm not sure what i should be looking for.

Polar is an old school harmonizing and pitch-shifter effect with a host of modern tricks up its dual sleeves. Use it for classic harmonizing, stereo-widening and realtime pitch-shifting, or experiment with freezing and looping for otherworldly effects.

Polar is an old school harmonizing and pitch-shifter effect with a host of modern tricks up its sleeves. Use it for classic harmonizing, stereo-widening, and realtime pitch-shifting, or experiment with buffer looping and audio freezing to create otherworldly effects.

You can add the FMOD Pitch Shifter effect to the events directly and use automation with parameters in order to adjust the pitch shifting and the pitch of the event at the same time. This is a bit simpler and more manageable than doing setPitch and adjusting the pitch shifting DSP manually in code.

Thank you, Richard
I guess what you said is to modify the pitch_shift for events in Studio.
But, what we want is to allow player to play audios at original speed or double speed while the game is going on.
I wonder the right way to apply pitch_shift while the game is going on.
Thank you again!

If you want double speed then you can automate the pitch of the event to go to 12st and automate the pitch shift effect to drop 0.5x. This will speed up the playback to be double whilst maintaining the original pitch of the event. This is all automated by the same parameter which you can access with EventInstance::setParameterByName()

I wonder if is it posible to change the pitch without changing the speed, only using the pitch control.
And if the only way is using the pitch shifter effect, what are de values to control exact semitones?

Spend 30 minutes with the manual, there's quite a lot to this delay. Impressive emulation although maybe could be slightly bigger on the screen but this is a small gripe. The VCO is really smooth and just dials in character as does the chorus section. Really good at defining a useable vocal space and doing ADT, plus tuning the pitches can make for arpeggiator effects and spirals. Recommended.

This is a beast and uses up my Sharcs but I loved the demo. The stereo delay regenerations are beautiful and inspiring, and you can really mangle them via the pitch shifter. I also really dug the chorus effect, wider and more open than the Dimension D that I also love to use a ton. II found myself enjoying the AMS DMX Digi Delay a lot more than I thought I would because it's a bit more psychedelic than the Cooper time cube, which has a different but simpler vibe. I'm a big fan of Chris Coady's work (Beach House, Amen Dunes), so his endorsement swayed me.

I'm making a new review. Because I think I think this plugin emulation is really bad and it should be updated. This is just and average ok plugin as far as being a pitch shifter delay, for those who never worked with the AMS SDMX. But in no way it is a respectful emulation of the original. You cannot make it self oscillate and create enormous bass sounds and ringing high pitch aliasing, you cannot sample and trigger and reverse sample and do crazy thing as with the original. There is no aliasing as on the OG machine which is a HUGE part of the sound. I have used the SDMX for many years and in no way it compares to it. If you want something closer get the H910 at least you can make it go a bit crazy with feedback. This one is only ok if you want to enhance stereo and get the 80s 90s sound of Phil colins, it is extremely disapointing. Basically looks like it is the real deal but don't be fool by that.

Put Hedra 500 into your studio rack and re-voice your melody palette in real time. 3 voices, in rhythm, combine with your original voice to create angelic harmonies. Each voice can be delayed and fed back for classic studio fattening, detuning, or extreme warping. Explore pitch locked harmony, either smooth or hard stepped and use your voice as an instrument. Add sonic unease and texture by micro tuning each voice or with our original glide mode to slide between pitches.

Slightly detunes all three pitch shifted voices

Pitchproof is a free audio plug-in that can shift the pitch of the input. The effect is meant to combine old styles of pitch shifting with the quality you expect from modern plug-ins.The result is this pitch "pedal" simulation that has most of what is great about guitar harmonizer pedals, and still preserves the signal's integrity.

The Blend control will let you use a fully shifted output, or the dry and wet signals mixed (a harmony). The Pitch menu lets you select pitches like +7 or -7, or harmonies which are intelligent pitch shift effects. These harmonizer effects are intended to be played in a certain major or minor scale. So selecting C (major that is) scale for Key, which doubles as Am (A minor), means you should play only the notes A, B, C, D, E, F, and G for the most harmonized results. Key is not important for non-harmony settings. Detune is good for getting a more natural effect, only a little is needed (a little up or down from the center position).

Keyboard-Force Mode: The pitch shift effect will try it's best to match the midi note, or to just do the default if no note is pressed. It is preferable to use Keyboard-Modu Mode instead of this if possible since it is more reliable. See video to understand the process further, and instructions are in the video as well at the end (for Reaper specifically but the principals should apply to whatever you are using).

Does anybody know how to get a smooth result from pitchshifter? All I get is distorted poor quality results that are unusable. The only way I can describe it is that sound wavers and sounds like its vibrating. I usually have my girlfriend change the pitch on her Final Cut Pro and then export it for me but thats not working today and its time I figure this out.

just send to audition as brian704 suggests. I've had this problem with trying to speed up footage without changing the pitch and audition handled it fine. as I remember figuring out how to match the speed change got a little tricky...

Must admit I've never really used any type of pitch shifter effect on my guitar sounds, probably mainly because I've never brought a decent one. Well just been messing about with the new pitch shifter effects and they are fantastic. I don't suppose people who are experienced with pitch shifting and harmonisers shed some light on some great/common settings. EG the kind of sounds Steve Vai uses etc

Here is a quick-guide for the Pedal Pitch Effect. This effect simulates a Whammy Pedal very effectively (think Tom Morello or Matthew Bellamy). Expression pedal is necessary to work this effect. The pitch range goes to 36, each 12th being an octave. If you want a 1 octave range set the Heel Pitch to 0 and the Toe Pitch to 12. If you want a 2 octave range keep the Heel Pitch at 0 and move the Toe Pitch to 24. This will put you into Audioslave "Like A Stone" territory or Dimebag Darrell's "Cemetery Gates" effect. If you want to make it a Dive Bomb pedal keep the Heel at 0 and set the Toe to -12 (1 octave down), -24 (2 octaves down), etc. You have a + or - 3 octave range to work with. You could set the Heel and Toe anywhere you would like to come up with some completely crazy crap but try the settings I've suggested to keep you in a playable range that you will find comfortable to work within. More to come!

I typically program the effect so I can play the note I consider to be the more important, and mix the harmony note to be not quite as loud. Doing that helps to mask any artificial qualities or possible glitches in the pitch shifted notes. Another bonus to this approach with pitch shifted down is that notes shifted down sound a little darker, and blend in with the Un-shifted notes really well.

So, try it both ways - depending on the profile, and song, the generated note may sound better a third above, with you playing the low note, or you may like it better when you play the higher part, with pitch set to a third below.

Or you can choose to go up a fifth, then match that same note down below which is down a fourth.
Fifths work well because they are not dependent on what key you are in, so that's a good generic patch to have for a basic pitch solo effect. Can be in chromatic pitch setting.

Lots of possibilities. For me I plan to keep the following presets:
1. Whammy pedal set to go up one octave.
2. Chromatic pitch with one note down an octave and one note up a fifth.
3. Chromatic pitch up a fifth. Typical solo effect.
4. Smart harmony with one note up a third, second note up a fifth. Will need to adjust key as needed.
5. Chromatic pitch with one note up a second. For that crazy Alan Holdsworth effect.
