After watching their past four games come down to the final drive to determine who would come out on top, Blanco thoroughly enjoyed a dominant performance in defeating the visiting Jarrell Cougars 42 to 14. Not since defeating Comfort 42 to14 in their second game of the season have the Panthers been involved in a game that wasn’t decided by 7 points or less. Blanco County Commissioners held a Special meeting on Tuesday, October, 23, 2012. All four county commissioners were present. County Judge Bill Guthrie asked the Court to consider acknowledgement of the fiscal year 2012 Chapter 59 Asset Forfeiture Report by Law Enforcement. The report showed a beginning balance of $82,242 and an ending balance of $74,106.

Project Graduation 2013 is hosting a Sadie Hawkins dance this weekend at the Young Life Building on Pecan Street. The dance is open to all high school students. The 7th grade Blanco football team defeated the Jarrell Cougars 28-14 on Thursday, October 18. The Panthers scored 3 touchdowns in the first half, including runs by Will Granberg and Kelby Cox. One of the two-point conversions was good. Blanco led at halftime 22-14. The second half proved to be a defensive battle, with each team stopping the other and turning the ball over on downs.

The 8th grade football team lost to the Jarrell Cougars 6-34 on Thursday, October 18. The Cougars struck first with a touchdown, but were denied their 2-point PAT when Hayden Hunt tipped the pass away from the receiver. Jarrell quickly scored again and added their 2-point attempt to take a 0-14 lead.

Recently, members of the Blanco FFA Chapter exhibited livestock at the Medina County Fair in Hondo as they participated in the annual prospect steer show. Overall, more than 300 head of cattle were exhibited over two days in the heifer and steer shows. Those members taking home second-place ribbons in their respective breed classes included Asher Haack, Carly Haack, Hannah Garrett, Brenna Wallace, and Carlin Green.

Can you hear the turkey gobbling, a deep voice saying “Ho Ho Ho,” and sleigh bells ringing as we are get ready for the Holiday Season? Thanksgiving is just 29 days away and KBB volunteers are busy getting Bindseil Park and city property decorated for the “Christmas in Blanco” Trail of Lights. Amy Petri and her FCCLA classes have been busy working with us for two weeks, wrapping lights on the tree trunks and putting new lights on our old city Christmas decorations.

The Panthers played aggressive, confident volleyball against the Comfort Deer on Tuesday, October 16, winning 3-0. Set scores were 25-17, 25-22, and 25-20. Reagan Rogers led the team with 13 kills. Lexee Jenkins made 21 assists. Reagan scooped up 15 digs. Leslie McClinton hit 3 aces and 3 blocks. On Friday, October 19, the panthers faced the Lago Vista Vikings, losing 0-3.

The Annual Live Oak School Reunion was held October 13 at the Masonic Hall. This school was located about six miles west of Blanco on Sammy and Grace Flugrath’s place on the Blanco River. It was a one-room board schoolhouse built in the late 1800s that consolidated with Blanco in the 1930s.

AUSTIN — Secretary of State Hope Andrade, the state’s chief elections officer, on Oct. 19 announced Texas reached a historical peak in the number of registered voters on her election division’s “official list of registered voters.” As of Oct. 19, Andrade said, Texas had 13,646,226 registered voters, the highest number in state history.

Tots Need Toys (TNT), the Blanco program that helps families who need assistance at Christmas, will be working with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation this year. TNT feels this will be a more efficient use of time and resources. Families requesting toys will need to complete an application form to comply with Marine Toys for Tots requirements.

The Uptown Blanco Art Center staged its Second Annual Quilt Show,“Wildflowers,” on October 12 – 14, 2012. Over 100 quilts were featured in various categories, with 60 of those quilts being entered in juried judging. The Best of Show was awarded to Helen Rode. Over $2,000 worth of prizes was awarded to the winners, while some of the attendees were awarded door prizes throughout the show’s run.
