Blanco County Commissioners met in a Special Meeting at 9:00 am, March 26, 2013. County Commissioners Paul Granberg, Chris Leismann, and John Wood were present. Commissioner James Sultemeier was absent. After hearing and approving the minutes of the previous Commissioners Court Meeting the Court was asked to consider acknowledgement of continuing education for all County Commissioners.

Lawrence was born May 18, 1940 in Peyton Colony and lives there today with his bride, Patty Coffee. They are the heart and backbone of Mt. Mwangaza Children's Choir from Uganda will perform their exciting, high-energy concert at First Baptist Church, Blanco on Wednesday night, April 3 at 6:30 pm. The 20 children of this touring group represent the African Renewal Ministries which supports churches, schools, orphanages, clinics, and child sponsorship programs in Uganda and East Africa.
Tree diseases and proper plant selected will be discussed at a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service program on tree diseases and proper plant selection for South Central Texas from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on April 13. The Blanco LL - Junior Girls Softball team (Rebels) shut out Lago Vista opening day, 11-0. Aggressive base running gave the Rebels an early lead. By the end of the 3rd inning, the maximum run rule was enforced and put a quick finish and victory for the Rebels’ first game.
Lt. Bob Shelton with the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office says that a 14-year-old female was reported missing by her parents on Friday, March 22. Deputies and officers from all over the county responded to the call. Officers tracked her cell phone and found her. She alleged that she had been kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to an address in the southern part of the county, Shelton continued.
Egon G. Artzt was born September 30, 1923 and went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2013 at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents Erich C. Artzt and Emma (Mueller) Artzt, son David E. Artzt. Egon graduated from Blanco High School in 1941, joined the US Coast Guard and served four years.

I would encourage you to read Matt. 6:25-34. Verse 34 says this: “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil (badness, malice, trouble) thereof.” Jesus told us several times in this section of Scripture to “take no thought” about natural things: clothes, food, shelter, etc.
On Saturday, March the 16th, members of the Blanco Masonic Lodge #216, along with members of Boy Scout Troop #497 (Joe & Niki Lockwood, Mitchell and Bret Barnett, Skylar and Denise Wagner, Thomas Kirkscey and Brian Meier) helped out in one of the annual Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup events. The teams were treated to breakfast tacos by members of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Michael James Murphy was born October 15, 1972, graduated from LBJ High School in 1990, and attended Loras College in Iowa. The Lord blessed him with great wit, charisma and charm. Michael was celebrated and won numerous awards for his tremendous acting and writing skills. He possessed a passion for music and upon reviewing old pictures; it was rare to find him without a guitar in his hand, an instrument he taught himself to play.
The Panther softball team completed the first round of district play with a 3 – 1 record. On Tuesday, March 19 the Panthers traveled to Ingram for a 23 – 0 win. With no hesitation the Panthers scored 13 runs in the 1st inning, with 3 runs tallied on a homerun by Kelsey Schwind.
Dear Friends, Blanco has lost another treasure - Vernon Schmidt, who passed away last week. He was a remarkable craftsman. Those of you who have not seen any of his work, stop by the Blanco Library. Encased in glass is a model of the Old Blanco County Courthouse that he built.
Registration for Wild Woman Weekend is still open, but some venues are filling quickly. The first weekend of April is a one-of-a-kind happening planned by women for women to party for the benefit of the Blanco Non-Profit Coalition. Activities, workshops, and special venues are all on the agenda for this inaugural weekend. On March 22, the Senate approved its version of the state budget, a plan to spend $95 billion in general state revenue in 2014 and 2015. The Senate version would spend $7 billion in general revenue more than the current 2012-2013 budget.
A man worked as a greeter at Wal-mart and was very good at his job, always friendly and helpful, but he was also almost always late by five, ten, or fifteen minutes. His boss called him in to discuss his job, and told him that he really did a good job but he needed to work at being on time.
Two burglaries were reported at Yett Park on Saturday, March 23, says Lt. Bob Shelton with the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office. Purses were left in plain view in vehicles, the deputy reports, and their windows were smashed out and items taken. The purses were promptly taken into the city of Blanco and the two complainants’ cards were charged.
Vernon Edwin Schmidt, 99, peacefully went to be with the Lord at his home surrounded by his loving family on March 20, 2013. He was born January 16, 1914, seven miles west of Blanco on Crabapple Creek Rd. Vernon lived and worked in and around Blanco all of his life.
Just recently during a real estate inspection, my client asked me why the house had a aerobic system versus a conventional, so thought this might be something to talk about. Some subdivisions require an aerobic system, whereas in rural areas conventionals are more common. Since I was a city person initially, I knew nothing about septic systems.

The Yucca Garden Club met on March 14 at the Blanco Library. In addition to Gertrude Hartman's wonderful program on container gardening (we all wanted to go home and plant), the club made Easter candy bags for the residents at Live Oak Medical Center.
