Hello, Blair Road Garden folks. Does the garden have any needs that volunteers could tackle at this April event? If you think so, let me know and I can talk to Michal.

Hello,

The Washington DC Jewish Community Center plans a large volunteer
program for around 150 community members (of all ages and backgrounds)
every April that is focused on building awareness about environmental
issues in the DC area. Usually, we do things like park/coast/river
clean ups, but this year I am running the project and want our
volunteers to get a better understanding of food justice issues and
urban agriculture opportunities in the district.

This year the project will be on April 10th from around 10-2pm. We
want the project to be fairly metro accessible or at least to have
good parking options. We usually do one project, but  because of the
sheer number of volunteers, I am more than open to doing a few smaller
projects. Some things we might be able to help out with is basic
construction (ie raising a farm shed, building raised beds, fence
construction, greenhouse construction, etc), planting/seeding/weeding/
double digging, or even doing some beautification (I know lots of
urban gardens have sheds they like to have painted with murals, etc).
We usually can provide enough of our own supplies to cover basic
project costs but we ask that if it’s a larger project, like shed
construction, that organizations be open to working with us on finding
funding.

I'm sending this email out in the hopes that a few of the
organizations you all are affiliated with can think of some ways that
my group may be of service. Please don't hesitate to email me back
directly at behrend...@washingtondcjcc.org with any questions,
comments, or concerns.

Also, on another note, I will begin planning a seasonal (probable
april-october) once/.twice monthly volunteer project through the JCC
with about 10-20 volunteers that will be focused on similar issues but
with a stronger focus on sustainable agriculture than anything else.
If you are interested in talking to me more about this or think you
may be able to host volunteers later in the year, please let me know

Thanks so much,

Michal Rosenoer
