BOATING

Community Boating Junior Program: Gain skills in kayaking, sailing, or windsurfing on the Charles River this summer! Ages 10-18. Must be able to swim 75 yards. Sliding scale fee. Jun 13-Aug 19. 617-523-1018 x12, www.community-boating.org

Piers Park Sailing: Piers Park Sailing Center offers programs for youth, adaptive and adults sailing. Piers Park is located in East Boston, near the Maverick T stop on the Blue Line. www.piersparksailing.org

Courageous Sailing: Courageous Sailing has programs at the Charlestown Navy Yard and at Jamaica Pond. The Summer Youth Program registration is closed to new applications but they do still have private lessons and membership programs. Brighton Community Rowing: The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) offers instruction for beginners, recreational and competitive rowers through October. Tenacity Summer Tennis and Reading Program: Tenacity, a literature and fitness program, provides participants the chance to improve their tennis and reading skills.  Register for a minimum of 2 weeks and maximum of 6 weeks. SUMMER JOBS

BCYF FACTS Program (Fourteen Year-Olds Acquiring Confidence, Training & Skills): Get prepared for future employment through hands-on experience at community centers by assisting with summer programs and events for younger peers. Participants must be 14 years old on or before Jul 5, 2011 to participate in the program. F.A.C.T.S. Initiative participants will work 15 hours each week and attend 2 hours of training per week. Free Ferry Day: Visit Georges or Spectacle Islands on Jun 21 and enjoy a free boat ride to get there. Have a picnic on Georges Island or relax aside a sandy beach on Spectacle Island. Ferries will be running on a special schedule. Just pick your time block and island and enjoy the day. Due to high demand, all tickets will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis and have a specific return time. Ticket kiosk opens at 8am. No advance reservations.
