Tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 7, at 6:00pm
Boston School Committee meeting
NEW LOCATION: English High School Auditorium, 144 McBride Street in Jamaica Plain
Let's have a big crowd at English High tomorrow night to let the Boston School Committee and Superintendent Johnson know that we are opposed to moving Boston Latin Academy to the Hyde Park Education Complex. If you wish to have 3 minutes to testify at the meeting, please call the School Committee office at 617-635-9014 to put your name on the list. Have your BLA students attend and tell them to bring their friends, too! Do you know any reporters or TV news people? If so, be sure to invite them, as well
This is our chance to show the Boston School Committee that we want to stay at 205 Townsend!
What's the issue?
Dr. Carol Johnson, Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools, has presented a proposal to the Boston School Committee to move Boston Latin Academy, a school of over 1700 students, to the Hyde Park Education Complex, a building which was designed to house about 1200 students. The proposal would also give Boston Latin Academy's building at 205 Townsend Street to The Boston Arts Academy, a pilot school of about 400 students. Floor plans of The Hyde Park Education Complex show that it is much too small to accommodate Boston Latin Academy's current student population plus the Hyde Park Education Complex is located at the far southwestern corner of the city making transportation difficult or impossible for many BLA students.
