Tobe honest, this battle can go either way. It would all depend on who would get a good shot in first. Yes, Arthas got significantly more powerful after becoming the LK but in his self titled novel and in Legion, Illidan has been buffed to high hell. In the novel, Illidan travelled to gather some souls and as usual, underestimated the opposition and lost a lot of his powers. While still in a weakened state and recovering, he created a portal for his demon hunters to head to Mardum before facing the players. This essentially means that the one fought in TBC was a very weakened Illidan, who, in the novel, was still beating the raid up until Maiev showed up. I don't have to talk about Arthas' feats since everybody knows he was one of the few who just one shotted the entire raid

In terms of hand to hand combat, they are about even. This I do find odd given that Illidan was imprisoned for ten thousand years so even if he is that good, he should be quite rusty but then again, that should be in the WCIII time. In the Rise of the Lich King novel, it was revealed that Illidan was the one who won their duel after a long fight but lost due to his own arrogance. Assuming that doesn't happen again, that would only make this battle that much more difficult to gauge and as I said earlier, whoever would get a good shot in first would win. Also, since this is them at their prime, Illidan shouldn't be rusty anymore as I think he was in his prime in Legion

In terms of their magic, I think that Arthas is more powerful but not by that large of a margin but Illidan should be more knowledgeable. For the most part, Arthas was a paladin, which I don't think dabbles in that many complex spells, and a death knight, which is the same only this time, he uses a lot of Frostmourne's powers. On the other hand, Illidan was an actual mage during the WotA and in his novel, was capable of replicating the destruction that sundered Draenor and was actually planning on doing the same to Argus

Arthas and Illidan are both more powerful later since their battle in warcraft 3, even though illidan stalemaned sargeras, arthas scales to the shadowlands which is the afterlife basically, he is beyond him in power, although these two are the strongest rivals in warcraft (not the strongest in the verse) but arthas would still win

Although Illidan was jobbing in their fight, Arthas still isn't leagues beneath Illidan in his death knight form, much like Tparks said. Although I don't think illidan would be oneshotted, the fact that he needed to vastly outnumber Magtheridon (who I'd say is comparable to or inferior to Lich King) to beat him is a good indicator that the lich king wins

I mean I think that saying that it was effortless is a bit wrong. He has a super-long fight with them, repeatedly tries to kill them by freezing them from the inside and bringing out his greatest tricks, and when they've beaten everything he can throw at them he pulls out his ultimate move to take them down and says they're the greatest champions in the world. It's not effortless if it's his trump-card.

And comparatively, Illidan is also just mocking his own raid force while weakened, only thinking he's in trouble and losing when Maiev shows up. Arthas has a stronger raid force against him to be sure, and Arthas is stronger to be sure, but Illidan is still pretty strong. Think Illidan would be roughly to Arthas what Maiev is to Illidan; notably inferior, yet with support or the right circumstances definetly a threat.

@cheth: His fight with them was to test them though. To see if he wanted them for his Death Knights. He was holding back before effortlessly killing them all. He could have just done that from the start if he simply wanted them dead, but he was never threatened the entire fight.

i have been playing the last month again, ive finished up my pathfinder 1 and am working on getting revered for pathfinder 2. my main is 883 and on the last couple quests of the balanc of power questline. i want to see where you all are with your mains and/or alts. are you excited for the tomb to be open? do you like the armor sets they dropped for this patch? have you attempted any of the challenges for your specs? thanks for taking some time to read this!

My main is a nightelf druid. She is at 893 currently. I am in a small guild, so we have not done any raids, just mythics. I do have flying and have 3 of my alts leveled to 110; a hunter, priest, and death knight. However, they are not very geared, only hovering around 845. I was thinking about trying to tank on my dk (I have never played a tank, only dps and healers) since we have no tanks among our alts so we have not been able to do any alt runs together.

my current main is a troll druid. i have loved the idea of druids since vanilla but never made one past level 20 until pre legion patch. and since then its the only character i have gotten past ilvl 850. i looovveee my druid so much. i have a different tmog set for each spec. resto is the haunted red and black set, cat form is the leather set that looks like panther armor from raid finder hfc bear set is the set from ulduar and balance is the dreamgrove raiment from the orderhalll. i mainly play balance but also have done tanking and kitty dps. im a terrible healer but i healed a mythic maw of souls once.

I have played my druid as my main since I started playing, too many years to count. For questing I play balance, but for dungeons and raids, I normally heal.

I do have a troll druid as well, but my heart has always been Alliance, and I like the night elf lore with Malfurian, Tyrande, and Illidan.

yeah balance is my main spec for everything. i just got the legendary shoulders the lady and the child and my dps almost doubled. it makes moonfire hit a second target and raises the power of it 20% that stacks up to 5 times. so i feel super cheap spamming moonfire but i do so much damage with that and my weps final passive. between 3 and 6 hundred thousand dps just off moonfire and the random procd lunar strike. i love the night elf lore as well, but the horde is my love. blood elves are my favorite, i played the crap out of warcraft 3 and frozen throne, so ive loved the horde for many a day. for getting out combat i always have to be in kitty spec to use the talent that makes prowl usable in combat. but im rarely in kitty spec
