Looking for a way to change finder background color - the white is way too harsh for a writer

I was able to force one page in Text Edit - no idea why

Looking also to get rid of the (show all) gallery display in "icon view" versus "list view"

I am not sure what they were going for but the Finder is a mess in 10.7.5
