Spotlight via QS?

QS? i recall there was a plugin a long time ago but i doubt that works
anymore and since no one has mentioned it in a while it seems interest
has waned.

The Spotlight Module still works. Be sure the actions you want to use are enabled. Note that the window mode for Spotlight is gone, but the action still works (and in fact is more likely to be what you want than “Spotlight in Finder””).
If my Preferences window worked, I’d probably disable that action. :)

both methods worked (spotlight plugin and the services menu action)
but what's interesting is the QS plugin returns results that are only
files (media, text, etc) and exclude webpages and emails whereby all
the above show up in the service-based search.
i also observed that the plugin search launches a finder-type window
with the search term in the window title but not in the search field
and next to a smart folder/search (purple) folder icon. the service
search (that includes a wider range of results) provides finder window
with the search text in the actual search field instead of in the
finder window title.
im not sure what this means or how they work differently but does
anyone know if this is documented formally somewhere?

That’s what I meant when I said “Spotlight in Window” is more likely to be what you want than “Spotlight in Finder”. It gives you a Finder window with the search text in the search field just like the service option apparently does. (I don’t have the services module installed to test.) I haven’t noticed whether or not the results are different between the two.
As for documentation of the behavior, it’s likely to be wrong even if it exists, as it would probably talk about the “window mode” for Spotlight that was only present in 10.4 if I remember correctly.

I have 7 actions for the spotlight plugin. And some of them don´t give
any result, searching all the time.

i've only tried the ones i mentioned and they work fine. i may rename
one to make it clearer if possible such as 'spotlight files only'
where it only brings up files and not emails, webpages, etc.
