Is there a way to synthesize an alternative Escape key in QS?

A friend of mine has recently had to replace the screen on his Macbook. The touchbar has also gone, so the escape key is no longer available.

Is there a way to use QS trigger (?) to generate an alternative escape key keyboard input?

Not that I know of. I use Karabiner Elements for something similar (reusing my caps lock key for a more useful purpose).

+1 on this suggestion. I use Karabiner-Elements to remap my right-option key to Esc, works great. I originally had exactly the same problem (lost access to Esc) but I find this placement of Esc so convenient that I've continued to configure several subsequent machines this way. I'm not aware of QS having this capability, though it would be interesting to learn if it does.
