I just updated to 1.5.1 (on Catalina) and I'm seeing insane resource usages, like 95% CPU and 32 GB RAM. It's acting like malware. Is this happening to anyone else? What's going on?

And now it’s quitting after a while, possibly because it’s using many GB of RAM. I Guess I’ll downgrade to 1.4.3.

Please can you check for any crash reports in Console.app, and if there are some, then report the issue on: https://github.com/quicksilver/Quicksilver/issues

You can also see a few more tips on troubleshooting here: https://qsapp.com/manual/Troubleshooting/

I don't seem to have any crash reports in Console, even though it has in fact crashed this morning. I relaunched it, and it's currently using 60GB of RAM.

Here are the correct ones:

I thought I'd include this info on Quicksilver's issues. Yes at what time Quicksilver randomly quits.....there is no Console reports on the crash or quitting. But running Activity Monitor here is some real time info. I have included screenshots for several as to Quicksilver's behavior. It is gobbling massive amounts of resources.
I am running Mac OS Sequoia on an M1 MacBook Pro.

These two windows show what happens after only a few minutes of Quicksilvers use.
These two Activity Monitor screenshot show what is really happening with Quicksilver....... so no wonder it randomly quits. Not a single crash reports either.

Laurie - Try turning off all of the QS plugins and see if it improves? That was what worked for me. Then I reenabled those I really thought I needed and have had no problem.

The max I've seen is now 90GB. This is insane. I'm shocked my system is even functioning, though I don't seem to be seeing any slowdowns.

That seems to have worked, though you have to quit and restart QS in order to see a change after disabling a plugin.

Wonder which plugin it was?

Add them back in one at a time to find out. Please let us know here.

So I followed the directions linked to my last response and about plugins possibly causing large amounts of data  activity and this is what Activity Monitor report on Quicksilver and indeed this is the cause of the large amounts of memory used. It also has not crashed in a couple of days either! Thank you so much.

Safari Plugin is the culprit.  Dropped from 20+GB to 80MB of memory after deactivating the plugin and restarting Quicksilver.

If you've submitted an bug report could you link the Github issue? If you haven't, I can do it.

Hey everyone, I am trying to reproduce this issue, but am unable to see any issues with Safari. Could you please open an issue on Github here with as much information as possible: https://github.com/quicksilver/Quicksilver/issues

Some information to include:

Your operating system
Your Safari version
How many bookmarks do you have in Safari (check the info in Quicksilver > Catalog > Plugins > Safari)

Any other relevant information would be useful, especially if others can confirm if it's the safari plugin. Thanks!

Follow up: we've just released an updated Safari plugin (version 2.5.1) which has a few memory optimisations. Please take a look and let us know if you are still facing the issue. If so, opening an issue on Github (see previous post) would be much appreciated!

Download the latest version of the plugin from within Quicksilver by clicking the 'Check Now' button for updates:

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for investigating! I just downloaded the new plugin and will create an Issue if I see… uh… issues.

If it helps, I have 1411 😳 bookmarks and I also have a huge catalog of documents, about 40,000, if that helps to know.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks Patrick.

Updated Quicksilver and the Safari plugin, then restarted QS.  Enabled the Safari plugin and memory usage was at 10GB and climbing a minute later.  Deactivated Safari plugin, restarted QS and memory issue went away.

Looks like TimLawson submitted Github issue 3052 last month on this already?

Hi Jim - I just added a comment to the old (closed) issue [https://github.com/quicksilver/Quicksilver/issues/3052], but I believe it is still happening. It’s possible that my catalog just has too many items and/or bookmarks to be handled.

Cheers,
Rob
