Why does the window of Quicksilver always stay behind the windows of
other applications? (β58)

This is a question I have too.

In my case I had no problem until about a month ago. Also the problem with me doesn't always occur & doesn't occur if the dock icon's clicked twice.

Are you using the bezelHUD interface? I was and when I changed to the Mini-Bezel Plug-in interface the problem went away.

Having said that I would love if someone could tell me why the BezelHUD interface started doing this as it's by far my favourite interface.

I suspect it's some manner of system change/setting rather than something within QS itself as I went into my time machine backup & replaced both the Application support 'Quicksilver' folder & the preferences file 'com.blacktree.Quicksilver.plist' with those from a time when I knew the problem wasn't being exhibited & yet the problem persisted even following a restart & removal of both cache items.

Could it be an issues with 10.6.6? I use BezelHUD with B54 and haven't seen this problem.

I don't think so, I'm using B54 too and I'm pretty sure it started just before 10.6.6.

I use β58 with BezelHUD on 10.6.6, and I have never seen this happen.

For those of you having problems, what method are you using to
activate Quicksilver? For those of you running it with an icon in the
Dock, what happens if you run it without one? Are you showing it in
the menu bar? Do you have any other software running that might
interfere? Can you use Quicksilver triggers to do other things? And
what happens if you run "open -a Quicksilver" in Terminal?

I've never had this problem with B58 but I run the FumoHUD.

I've just tried the FumoHUD interface and the same thing happens.

Here's a picture showing what happens when hitting the keyboard trigger to activate QS. In this case Safari's open, I hit the trigger then begin to type. The picture on the left is what should happen and the one on the right's what does happen. You can see the interface opens behind safari but the drop down list that appears when I start typing opens correctly on top of Safari.

If the picture doesn't get uploaded with this email (don't know why it should't) I've uploaded it using Cloud app too:

I tried typing "open -a Quicksilver" and got the reply "Unable to find application named 'Quicksilver'". Which was a bit confusing till I realised Quicksiler's spelt with 1's & epsilon's and stuff. When I spelt it correctly it did, indeed, open the interface properly. Does this shed any light on what may be happening?

Setting a trigger  that "runs a text command in terminal" with the text command to "open -a Quıcĸsıɩⅴεʀ" works but of course opens a new terminal window each time I run it. Not sure which is most annoying, having the interface open in the background or having a terminal window appear each time I activate QS. Expect I'll end up bobbing back to the Cube interface before long if no one can suggest a solution.

Did you already try creating a fresh user profile and testing QS there?

I hadn't but I have now & the same thing happened almost immediately.

So I've gone back to the Cube interface.

It's a shame, I quite liked that FumoHUD interface, haven't seen it before & unlike the BezelHUD interface there's no need to pull the FumoHUD.qsplugin out of the plugins folder every time I needed to get to the preferences. (I'm a ß54 user and the BezelHUD plugin that works for ß54 causes ß58 to crash & vice versa.) Not that it was that much of a hassle — as I did it so often I'd set triggers to move BezelHUD.qsplugin to the desktop & Quit Quicksilver & another to move it back again & Open Quicksilver.

I don't believe the FumoHUD interface plugin is on the official plugins page so if anyone wants to give it a try it can be downloaded from here:

I noticed on the Fumo page there was a link to Bezel Pro. Never heard of it. It looks a bit like BezelHUD in the screenshot, but when I try it, it looks like Primer with the transparency cranked up. Has anyone used it?

It says it’s “fully customizable” so maybe if I could see the Preferences, I could change the appearance. (I also use B54.)

Mystery solved. Since I can’t get to the Preferences, I was just editing the plist by hand and guessing. I put “BezelPro”, which must be something Alcor started but never made official. After firing up a copy of B57 to edit the prefs properly, I see that Ankur’s is referred to as “Bezel Pro” in the plist.

I didn’t like it as much as BezelHUD, but it works.

Instead of the "Run a Text Command in Terminal" action, try the "Run
Command in Shell" action.

Ah yes, that would appear to have the desirable effect.

Feel like I should have known about that before. Always learning with Quicksilver.

Thanks for the help.

Wonder if this has helped whoever first brought up this topic?
