ugh - all my experience with computers and a silly thing like this
gets in the way.

trying to install B53 and yet i've been tripped up by something
stupid: file compression. i just can't uncompress QS.3815.dmg.bz
under OS 10.5. Both OSX's Archive Utility.app and the third-party
Zipeg.app produce QS.3815.dmg.bz.cpgz (CPGZ is a new one to me).
hrmm, ok, let's try opening that, and it uncompresses to... another
QS.3815.dmg.bz. they'll just go back and forth like that forever.

meanwhile:
****************************************************
$ tar -xvjf QS.3815.dmg.bz
tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header

bzip2: (stdin): trailing garbage after EOF ignored
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
****************************************************

what am i missing here? what's wrong with using plain ol' .zip? and
why is QS's internal updater failing?

too bad my first post here is to complain - i really love this
software.

The Quicksilver .dmg doesn’t mount
If you downloaded it with Safari, look to see if the downloaded file’s
name ends with .bz2. Rename the file in the Finder, removing the .bz2
and then try opening the file.

aha! thank you, that worked!

i read the FAQ on blacktree.com but didn't catch the one here. that's
odd behavior on Safari's part, i've never seen it handle an archive
like that (or, not handle).

and B54 fixes the dock icon never disappearing! it also found plugin
updates correctly.

thanks again,
