Excluding by file extension and specific folder name

Long-time daily but stupid QS user here. I manage a lot of websites in GIT repos. I added .git and .css  to "Exclude types" which seems to have been accepted as ".git" and "CSS" — I still don’t find "types" usable or even comprehensible, so right now am just guessing when I add something to see if it’s recognised on hitting return.

I want to exclude many things by extension (.js, .json, .c, .rb, etc.), but also folders with certain names, from being catalogued e.g.:

styles, output, assets, data, _inc, etc.

Is this even possible?

update: adding file extensions for various languages works, so that part of my question is solved. I didn’t realise that the type only shows up when you hit return after adding (say) .json because even though you type something in, nothing appears until hitting return!
