MEURSAULT are fast becoming an Edinburgh institution. Last year's
album 'Pissing on Bonfires/Kissing With Tongues' was incredibly well
received, and the new 'Nothing Broke EP' looks set to bring more
success.
"Any song that invokes A-Ha, Daft Punk and speed-metal riffage is a
certified winner. A gold medal, then, to distorted pop cabal
Meursault, who cram all of the above plus thunderclap drums, banjo
snarls and a general sense of the devil's own revelry into 'The
Furnace': a feat which, by turns, conjures REM, the Arcade Fire,
midnight rituals and Ceilidh romps. They're mobilised by the
swaggering yowl of errant one-man bard Neil Pennycook - a skewed
philosopher and startling frontman with a sardonic (yet justified)
line in self-belief: "I will call myself an army, I will call muself a
king," he wryly-rightly-sings." —Plan B magazine

HONEYTRAP haven't played in Edinburgh for a few years now. Having
moved to London last year and picked up a new bass player in the form
of Sophie Dodds (formerly of Edinburgh band Korova), the band have
just recorded a bunch of new material to follow up their debut album
'Follies In Great Cities'.
"I’ve been waiting some time for this, and it didn’t disappoint. I
don’t know if it’s the tortured wail of the vocals or the demented
screech of the fiddle that does it for me, but they’re both amazing.
It’s got a sightly old-fashioned sound about it as well - something of
the early nineties that I can’t quite put my finger on." —Song, by

X-LION TAMER used to be called Ex Lion Tamer until he discovered
another band "who sound like a shit Pearl Jam" with the same name.
Whatever you want to call him, Tony Taylor makes amazing, wonky,
unashamed pop to make you swoon. He has a single out on Edinburgh's 17
Seconds Records which you should seek out.
"X-Lion Tamer gives his electronic pop a weird, wonky and rather
wonderful twist on Neon Hearts" —The List

(This is not a Black Tape club night. It is just a gig. Curfew is
10pm.)
