We at Blacktail Permaculture are on our way to developing a Community
Supported Agriculture!
Although it will not be set to go online this season, we are taking
giant steps towards making this happen. We have cleared and are now
farming 6 acres this season.
Four of these acres are being put into an oat and hairy vetch cover crop
and two acres will be put into organic hot pepper production. My
business partner Aeron is financing me by buying the tools needed for
production. He has purchased the soft rock colloidal phosphate as soil
amendment. He has paid for the tractor work and he has purchased the
irrigation equipment needed for successful production in the years to come.
However, we do not have yet a mechanical transplanter this season to
transplant the over 37,000 pepper seedlings we will need to put into the
ground, starting May 15th. We will be doing this all by hand this
season. We do have several stand up transplant droppers that we will use
to expedite this process. But nonetheless, it remains a PROCESS,
speaking lightly.
IF YOU CAN: PLEASE come out to Blacktail from Friday the 15th of May
until a week later around the 21st to help us get these peppers in the
ground. Having a successful farming season this year will continue to
set the stage for us in getting the CSA up and running.
I will provide everyone that helps with all their meals, snacks and
water during these days.
