Hi folks,
I've been mulling over some ideas for getting software tech folks together. One of the *few* things I miss from living in Portland, OR, was the really active user groups. They're fun and educational.
One one way to build those groups is to get groups together for some cross-pollination.
I'm partly motivated by my own need to stay up with different techologies but it's like drinking from a firehose. So you really have to pick a technology and master it. But you have to SAMPLE a bunch of different ones to decide on one.
What do you think of these ideas:
* Short (20-40m) presentations on a particular technology (language, framework, etc.)
* Shoot-out - where we give the same problem to several people (or teams) who then solve it in different languages and frameworks (so PhP vs. Python +Django vs. Ruby on Rails, etc.)
