After we finalize the name, how should we promote our meetup?

Joe Crawford (@artlung) has added us to his site t.noke.us.  He's a developer from our area, but recently moved to SF.  This was the first site I came across in my search.  Our meetup is currently listed as blacksburg.rb, but we can update it later if we need to.

Should we create a twitter account?  What ideas do y'all have?

So, anyone opposed to renaming to blueridge.rb or Blue Ridge Ruby?

After we get that straightened out, we can make Twitters, etc.

David,

Did someone do some sort of survey to get an idea of what potential attendees would be most interested in?
(I think I remember filling out such a survey)

For example, personally, I've not used Ruby. I'm just very interested in it.  But I may be unusual.  I kinda view developing a support group  like developing a product. It really helps to know what the "customer" want.

We did talk about this a little bit at the meetup and didn't really come to a solid conclusion. I think ultimately it will be based on the people who show up and the interests that they bring to the table. I personally don't care what the group is called or if it is focused on a language, methodology, or paradigm, but having a solid developer meetup in the area that is consistent would be nice :)

An organic approach is just fine.

I "took the helm" of a small group of local small hi tech folks (New Media Group)  earlier this year.
One thing I found helpful is to *suggest* some topics (and let other suggest some topics) via the email announcement. It's like having an agenda for a meeting. That might drum up a bit more attendance.
But that might also work better if you delayed it til the group has "gelled" a bit more.

I can spread the word about this group around the Virginia Tech Cyber Security Club and the Linux and Unix Users Group at Virginia Tech.

I know some people there use Ruby and they might be interested in this.
