Church Coordinators,
We hope that this email finds both you and your families doing well during the pandemic that we have been dealing with for over 4 months now. These are challenging times at the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry, but many have stepped up to help us meet these unique challenges with continued support and donations. We are truly thankful!
Currently, the food pantry is functioning with about 4 volunteers a day organized in daily teams. We have the same teams each week to minimize the exposure to our volunteers that are at high risk and for the benefit of our clients. Many of our current volunteers are college students and teachers. With school starting back in August, we find ourselves in need of more volunteers very soon.
Our procedures have changed quite a bit. Clients are not permitted in the facility and are served on a drive through basis. Our volunteer teams work with masks and gloves, and we attempt to minimize contact with clients. We would like to ask our church coordinators to check with their pre-COVID volunteers to see if they might be willing to return as a
weekly volunteer. The three criteria for volunteers are:
- They need to be comfortable working in the pantry with masks and gloves.
- We ask that they be able to help once a week beginning in August/September.
- We ask that they practice safe social distancing outside of the pantry for the benefit of their volunteer team.
Please feel free to send this letter out directly to your volunteers. You can have them respond directly to me at
gsbh...@gmail.com or text/call
540-922-3499. We anticipate that we will continue to operate on a drive through basis only for the foreseeable future.
Though we haven’t physically seen many of you recently, we are so thankful for each of you and your continued support of our food pantry.
Most Sincerely,
Beth Abel
