Hi Copenhagen Blacklight,

We are sorry to keep bugging you, but we just got the lease from Dan, and there is a clause in it that states that if we think there need to be any repairs to the house, we need to request them before signing the lease. We were wondering if 2 or 3 of us could stop by to do a walk-through sometime during the day (tomorrow 930am-2pm, Friday 12-5pm, or Saturday all day work for us). I talked to Anay today and he mentioned that you guys already have a couple of requests for repairs into Dan, so it would also be great to know what those are if possible. Anay also said you guys are working on the passdown spreadsheet.

We are super excited to live in Copenhagen Blacklight next year! Thank you so much for working with us throughout the pass down process!

Best,

Kirsten

Hey Kirsten-

Good idea on doing a walk-through prior to signing the lease.  Dan was very attentive to our repair requests at the beginning.  I think he generally likes to deal with as much of that stuff up-front as possible.

I won't be around today during the times that you guys are available, but I should be at the house Saturday from 12pm until mid-afternoon.  Should we plan for that?  I can give you the low-down on all of the little repairs you might want to add to your list.

I'm confident you guys will love the house, and that with a woman's touch, it can be transformed into something quite...palatial!

All the best,
Alex

Hi Alex and all,

We actually got a written commitment from Dan to consider repairs, so we actually won't need to bug you this weekend to do the walk-through. But please keep us updated about the passdown spreadsheet that you guys are putting together.

Happy Birthday Anay!!!

Hi team,
Hope you had a good walkthrough.  Wanted to pass along the Passdown fee info.

The Passdown Fee that we inherited (and slightly updated) is: $10,742.
The document with details that was passed down to us is here.  Our updates are on the 2013 tab.

Please let me know if you can provide us checks or paypals (anay...@gmail.com) by Wed the 17th.
Best,
Anay

Hi All,

Please let us know if you have any questions with the Passdown, so we can address them and continue.

If not, please let us know when/how we can make the transfer.
thanks,
Anay

Hi all!

We're meeting tonight to figure out rooms and discuss the questions we have about the passdown, so will get back to you by tomorrow.  As for the transfer, we'll probably just give you checks.

I'll be dropping by to check out the house again this afternoon.. see some of you guys then!

Hi CB12/13,

We're excited to move in!  Thanks so much for all your help and letting us break in the back door a few times to look around :)

We all just met up for the painful but effective room allocation process, where the invisible hand was alive and well, and are all set with rooms.  A couple questions for you all:

1) What dates are you all planning to move out?  We will have summer subletters, so if any of you are leaving in the middle of June, you could get a portion of June rent back from them.  Let us know.

2) We had a chance to talk about the passdown fee as well.  We were all a little bit surprised by the upped amount, since we were expecting the fee to be the originally estimated $8,500 listed on the passdown google doc.  All of us are very budget conscious and the passdown fee amount was a factor in our decision to go with Blacklight.  We were and still are willing to pay the $8,500, but can’t pay the $10,742.  We definitely want to find a solution that is fair to everyone, so we’d be willing to pay the depreciated amount for whatever you had to pay last year, plus more for some of the items you purchased this year that aren’t duplicative of items that were already in the house. That way you can still recoup your investment by selling off some of the items you purchased this year.  See below for which items we’d be willing to pay for (we calculated our willingness to pay based on researching similar items from Craigslist).

Best,

Hey Team-

I think Kirsten's request (below) is incredibly reasonable, and we need to act on it fast.  I was unaware of the ballooning passdown fee, and I think we need to rein it in.  This group will already be getting shit for their $9000+ investment, so I think we should be reasonable.  Our choices are either to accept the depreciated value for this stuff or take some of the less reasonable items off the passdown.  I really think we need to address this today.  If anyone protests to accepting her request below, let me know asap, but there needs to be a bulletproof rationale.  Otherwise, I am going to accept her proposal and move on so we can get some money back.

I don't mean to be harsh, but I really want to get this done so we can get our money back.

I agree. However, her proposal will only chop less than $300 from the passdown fee. What about the other $2000?

I agree an support Markham's response.

Khaled - I think what she is saying is that they will pay for $500 for those items listed PLUS our passdown fee from last year.  But chop off all the other stuff we added (couches, weight set, etc).

I think that comes from taking off some of the less relevant passdown items.  There is some stuff on there that these girls definitely dont need, and that would be fine for us to keep--e.g. the gym, some of the couches, fridges, etc.

i'm fine with removing the weight set (approx $550).  i think the couch upstairs can probably stay.  Benje, hoping you'll match this and remove a bunch of your stuff (did you really spend $150 on a desk?)  Let's get this dealt with.  I'm open to removing a couple other items too, like the chair and a fridge.

Please let's not make this a hassle for those coordinating - as the passdown and security deposit process were at the start of the year.

Also, you all owe rent for the month. It's May 1 and I'll pay Dan when y'all pay me. Checks are better than paypal.

thanks Eric.  I'm happy to contribute to the weight set since I've benefited from having it around this year.  If everyone who added to the passdown fee escalation can take off an equivalent amount, I think we will be in great shape.

Please try to provide your consent and amendments to the google doc by COB today so we can move forward with this.

thank you

I didn't pay any of the passdown fee, so as a relatively disinterested (and presumably unbiased) third party, their argument seems legit.
