Three House-related Questions

Hey Blacklight 2014-

I hope all of you summers and internships are off to a great start!  We had a bit of a crazy moving day yesterday with our crew  moving out as the subletters were moving in, but all seems to be relatively sorted.  Just a few things I wanted to clarify with you guys:

1)  I was doing some house accounting this morning, and realized that I am short one passdown check.  I can only find checks from the following people (all of which have been deposited):

Melissa Webb
Peter Brandt
Kirsten Stasio ? (guessing based on signature...see attached image)
Courtney Dong
Brian Latko
Gaya Datar

Courtney J- can you let me know where you put your check? 

2)  Can you please list out the rates you are charging the various subletters for all of the rooms?  There was some confusion about this yesterday.  They seem to be paying more for their rooms than the people who previously occupied their rooms, which doesn't make sense to me.  I am curious if there is in fact a difference, and what the justification would be for this. 

3)  There is also currently an issue with the number of subletters vs vacant rooms.  Three people from Zefi's group moved in yesterday, but there are only two rooms available for them.  Can you please let me know what the strategy is for this, because the house is  brimming full at the moment now that the basement is almost entirely occupied with boxes/bikes/etc.  Similarly, the upstairs has basically been turned into startup headquarters, which isn't ideal. 

Since I'm still the primary signatory on the lease and accountable to Dan for anything that doesn't look right (at least until I get back the $16k+ damage deposit), I would like to get these things straightened out as soon as possible.

Just wanted to respond, although I don't have all the info.  How is there not enough space for Zefi and co?  We need to resolve this ASAP and compensate them in some manner..  The difference in rent is likely due to our bidding process resulting in different rents per room than you guys have been using.  I'll leave that one for the people whose rooms are being subletted (I'm just moving into Khaled's July 1 and don't know all the sublet details).  I agree the place, especially the basement, is a mess.  This will be alleviated somewhat when I move all my stuff from the basement to my room, but there is still a ton a stuff.  We knew Zefi and friends would be working from home from the outset, but they agreed to be reasonable about noise at night, space, etc.  Beyond what I've written, hopefully other Blacklight 2014 people can be of help.

Additionally, I charged my subtenant the rate that I will be paying for my room because when I asked Eric what his room rate was, he never responded to my emails.  Eventually I got the info from Anay, but that was after it was necessary for me to get the lease signed.  I plan to reimburse my subtenant or put it toward utilities (I told him he didn't have to contribute to utilities for June).  Let me know if you have any further thoughts or concerns about this.

I don't have any info about Zefi's group--I wasn't the liaison with them but it is likely that Courtney or Gayatri will respond about that.

Hi Alex, 

See below for responses regarding Zefi's group.  Brian and Gaya - feel free to add.

2) There should be no concern here wrt to Zefi's group.  They are paying a pro-rated rate based on exactly what Anay and Atsushi are paying for June.

3) We were not aware that the guy who is subletting Jamaal's room starting July 1 had moved in earlier than his sublease start date.  We'll reach out to Zefi and see if there is a way for that third person to contain his presence in common areas during the daytime, and only use the common area for actual sleep.  Unless someone has an Aerobed in the house?  If so, we could ask that the third person sleep in either Zefi or Leo's room.  

Regarding the use of the upstairs common area - as Peter mentioned, Zefi promised to keep the work area tidy and to not work during unreasonable hours.  

Lastly, I want to note that we collectively picked Zefi's group because they seemed to be good natured people who would be respectful and considerate not only of the house, but the other tenants in it.  Hopefully that's coming across to you as well -- I'm sure Zefi's group would be open and receptive to your feedback so if you feel they are working too late or making a mess, please feel free to communicate that directly with them, too.

Courtney J. - when is Dan doing a walk through?  Melissa / Courtney / Brian / Gaya - let's all reach out to our subletters and ask them to clean up before Dan comes.

If someone has moved in early, any compensation makes no sense unless it's in the opposite direction.  This probably goes without saying..
