Hi Anne,

Per our conversation in our last meeting, you said that you would be able to make a flyer for ESL Cafe. Based on ESL Cafe invitation emails I sent out for last Sunday, will you be able to make a colorful flyer for us? We will use it to display at ISS (International Student Services) and other places like Eagle Heights and Regent Apartment.
If you need ESL Cafe's general description, this is what BAG's says:

A friendly informal gathering of international students and scholars, plus Americans who want to meet people from new places, to talk about our languages, cultures, and experiences. Internationals can improve their language skills, while enjoying snacks and drinks. Meets 9:00 am on Sundays at the church. Contact: Blackhawk...@googlegroups.com

I am not sure if you will have room to include bus schedule and pick-up points. If not, just include URL of bus information below will do:
You might also want to include URL of driving direction, since some internationals do drive:
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Craig,
It seems to me that we need to request an update to change "Meets 9:00 am" to "Meets 4:30 pm". Thanks.

Thanks,
Shere-Ling

Shere-Ling,

This week at the ESL Cafe kids' table, I will cover the following topics:

Do the children have any questions about school or life in America?  (This and the next topic will be points of discussion for the children).
What was school like this week?
I will review some school supply words and other classroom-associated words
We'll learn the names of playground equipment and how to invite another child to play with them
We'll learn the names of places/times in the school not associated with the classroom (i.e. cafeteria, recess, lunch, etc.)
I will stress the importance of each child knowing his/her home address and phone number.

Again, if you have any other suggestions, please let me know.  Thanks!

Katie

Shere-Ling,
    Thanks for the information:
>Blackhawk Church has new website.

I discovered this yesterday (not because Blakhawk warned me, I just stumbled onto it while searching for information about bus detours due to the Ironman Triathlon) so I changed the ESL Cafe homepage and put the revised page on the server at 9:10 pm last night.

    Now here is a mystery:
This morning I opened the homepage in two browsers -- Safari for Mac, Firefox for Mac -- and the new links didn't work in either browser, even after many times of "refreshing" the page by reloading it.  Instead both browsers keep opening the old version of the homepage with the wrong links.  And it still doesn't work in Firefox even though I "emptied the browser cache" so Firefox should have no memory of the old version with the outdated links.
But I opened a page in Safari, using the file that is on the server, by doing this DIRECTLY from the server, and the links work.  And the HTML code for the actual page (that is on the "mywebspace" server at UW) is correct.  Therefore it should work, but...
the links don't work in two browsers that normally are reliable.
Can some you please open this page ASAP, and try the links (there are two identical links for "cars" and two identical links for "bus") to see if they work in your browser?  Evidently they don't work in the browser of Shere-Ling either (therefore she is telling me about this) even though the proper file is on the mywebspace-server.  This is the mystery -- why do the homepage-links not work in our browsers, even though they're correct in the file that is on the server?
After I've heard from several of you -- please tell me your operating system and browser name, and whether the links work -- I'll try "uploading it to the server again" to see if that fixes the practical problem.  But first I want to get more data about the mystery.

By the way, this is one of my pet peeves -- webmasters/editors who change URLs without "forwarding" them, especially when (as in this case) there was no good reason to change the URL.

Craig,

URL has been changed for BAG , car or Yellow Bus, audio or video file besides map & directions and bus route & schedule.
Please update the above links on your ESL Cafe home page. (I have no idea how your university server work or update in relating to your personal web space and this particular ESL Cafe web page. Maybe you can ask the system folks or web folks of the university.) The rest of the links are all okay for me from my computer and browser.

NOTE: I am ccing people here so that we all know that Blackhawk Church website has been changed and a lot of old web page links don't work anymore.

Thanks,
Shere-Ling

"lots of old web page links"??

Two links (each on page two times) don't work -- even though I fixed
them last night -- due to the "mystery" involving the uw-webserver
and browsers that I described.

Craig,

 >a lot of old web page links (if you referenced them in your email or newsletter for you tried to outreach internationals) don't work anymore.

This is an English issue. I should say "a lot of old URL of old web pages about Blackhawk Church doesn't work anymore due to the major makeover of Blackhawk Church website. Sorry! ( Now you know why I have such a strong passion for ESL Cafe. :>) )

From my computer, the following links don't work on ESL Cafe homepage:
BAG, car, Yellow Bus, audio or video file, map & directions and bus route & schedule. I just did some testing for you per your request in your previous email messages. (Could be the problem of my computer and the brower. Who knows! This is in no way reflecting your work as you have already explained about the mystery!!!
