Subject: From Shere-Ling - we need your input for formal ESL class
To: Shere-Ling Kraus-Yao <sher...@gmail.com>

Dear all,

Greetings! A group of Americans of Blackhawk Church and I are planning to have a formal and structured ESL Class for three to four weeks for visiting scholars and students.  Your input is vital to the success of this short-term pilot program, since this will be a learner-centered class rather than teacher-centered class.

Please help us by giving your input via
(1)  coming to tomorrow 's ESL Cafe and tell us (Craig and Catherine, and I)
(2)  emailing me
(3)  giving me a call at 345-9303

Thanks,
Shere-Ling Kraus-Yao

Shere-Ling,
Did you send this to the CSSA list?
If so, this is a great announcement/request.

But I have one suggestion for the future:  the subject line should immediately grab attention, from the beginning, so instead of the way it is (with the interesting part at the end, which is probably past the point where viewers can even read it in their in-box) put it at the beginning like this:

as-is:   From Shere-Ling - we need your input for formal ESL class
better:  ESL Class (Shere-Ling wants your input)

With the better way, a viewer immediately sees the two most important things (ESL Class, Shere-Ling) in the mail-program window, which has limited width, but as-is the most important thing (ESL) won't even be visible in the in-box window unless it's extremely wide.

But the content is very good.  Hopefully we'll get some good ideas tomorrow.
We can also check with Willow Creek.  They'll have lots of ideas and experience, and I'm sure they'll want to help.

Craig

I only sent to some 40 people who have been to ESL Cafe or I met at ICCH (International Conversation and Coffee House) at the university. Anyway, I will send one to CSSA with subject line as "ESL Class (Shere-Ling wants your input)" per Craig's suggestion.

Oops! (I just got mail into my inbox, and found my own message.)
Remember, Craig (and anyone else who is unaware enough to make
the same mistake?), even though the message is from Shere-Ling, if
it's to the list when you hit "reply" it goes to everyone on the list.

Anyway, there are some useful ideas in the final paragraph, ad I
apologize (Shere-Ling) for the unintentional public criticism.
Sorry. :<(

Craig

No problem. My Alpha for ESOL course had 10 people showed up this last Thursday night. Among us, 4 are new faces in the group!! (I met 3 first time in my life.) If interested in knowing more, please email me directly.

Caiping,

>so for the ESL class, we can take the bus at 3:30pm o'clock at Brownsgelter, can we?

Yes, you  can come to brown shelter bus stop at 3:30 pm.

>last Sunday, i would take my family to the church. We waited for the bus in the rain from 9:45 to 10:00am, but no bus came so we had to give up.
i want to confirm wether or not there is a bus at this time.

I am so sorry about that. Normally the bus is on time. Make sure you know where the brown shelter is. If not sure, EH Community Center has a map for you.

>maybe we can come earlier and take part in some other activities.

Yes, you can come to 10:45 am service and stay for International Club and do something near Church after I. Club at about 1:30 pm.  And then come back for 4:30 pm ESL class. Some Sunday some volunteer might be able to take you some where near by like park or shopping mall between 1:30 to 4:30 pm. If I have time and energy, I will do that and let you know ahead of time on Friday or Saturday.

Hope this is helpful,
Shere-Ling

best,
Caiping

Hi Caiping,

Good to hear from you. The class will take place as before at Blackhawk Church. We will meet at 4:30 to 5:50 pm. So, no more 9 am ESL cafe from this coming Sunday. You can take FREE yellow bus like before. The bus schedule is in www.blackhawkchurch.org. (search for bus )The children will go to Planet Kid class while adults are having ESL class. I will send out email when the class room has been assigned to us.

Hello,
Thanks for your email. I think it is better to assign some dues for students such as writing samples or reading some short papars and stories, then these materials can be discussed during the class hours.
regards
Arman
