Info from Brent Keller, Blackhawk Masters Biathlete:

Greetings Blackhawk masters biathletes,

For our June 10th practice, we'll be doing a practice mountain bike biathlon race. I am excited to try this out, and perhaps have a more "formal" event later in the year.

Schedule:
5:30pm - Zero and pre-ride/course inspection
6:05pm - Racers Meeting
6:10pm - Race. 5 laps, PPSS
6:50pm - Tear down

Course:
  • Biathlon range - Ziggy - Fenceline - Be Happy - Biathlon range
  • The lap is expected to take between 4min 30sec and 6min 30sec
  • The lap features a mix of sustained climbing and fast descending and is all easy and intermediate trails. (safer than rollerskiing! 😀)
  • There will be a penalty loop
Other notes:
  • Free, informal, no official timing, come try it out.
  • Current Blackhawk membership required.
  • No novice category: you must be a current US Biathlon member with completed rifle safety certification.
  • We will be doing rack-to-rack with rifles, like a running race.
  • For those less familiar with Blackhawk MTB trails, we will have a volunteer (my wife Brittany) to take you on a guided pre-ride lap, if you wish. Course will have some minimal marking as well.
  • For those who want to practice but not mountain bike, we will have a lane or two open for you to practice as normal.
  • For those who would like to participate, but do not have a suitable mountain bike, please reach out to me (brent.r...@gmail.com) and we will try to find you something to borrow.
  • Helmets required. Bring your own helmet.
Let me know if you have any questions!

-Brent
