I was surprised to hear about the big crush yesterday as Primark
opened their new branch in Oxford St. The frenzy was sparked by false
rumours that first day shoppers would be handed "25 per cent off"
vouchers - and even that all items would be sold for just £1.

Its a shame then that the main proponents of this crush all seemed to
be young black women. What makes me mad is that there are clearly
quite young girls in volved in this crush, someone could have been
seriously hurt. As a parent it incenses me that some people seem to
have lost all concept of community as well as common sense. Afterall,
its only Primark...is it worth losing a life over?

Yes, all young women and nto one lady in sight. I know that older
black women do not behave like those women I saw on the TV the other
night, and older black women are quite visble. What is it about young
black girls today that needs, "bigging up"? Perhaps, there should be
away days, and boot camps for our young black girls too.....There is
something about black childhood that seems to be embeeded within youth
culture, and that, is not influenced by older black adults today.
Whatever happened to the black extended family. Fathers may not be
around, but surely aunts and uncles are there.

I was outside Tescos giving leaflets out the other dya, and it pleased
my soul to see a grand-dad proudly leading his very young
grandchildren around the store, and alone. This is not a common place
experience so I savoured the moment. It reminded my of happier days
when we all lived at grannies, and shared the same iron tub every week
inrt he middle of the living room. Not the front room I hasten to add.
You know how preciousthe front room was for west inidan families in
the UK. I think its time older family members looked up family members
they may have lost contact with, and just see whether the bridges can
be mended and re-affirmed. Our black children clearly need our help
and support and may be they will behave as if someone actually taught
them some manners, and perhaps less ready to kill each other.
