to Black Britons United
The campaign is aimed at stopping the government from pushing forward
changes to mental health law that will worsen the discrimination
against Black people.

The Department of Health are responsible for redrafting the 1983
Mental Health Act and have excluded race from a review of the Act -
This campaign is calling for race to be made a priority in light of
the number of black deaths in psychiatric care.

We want to see our community and anyone else who cares about justice
lobby their MPs before parliament reconvenes in October. It is really
important to get people to act now or we will end up with changes to
the 1983 Mental Health Act which will lead to more black deaths in
psychiatric care.

The campaign can be accessed through a new website called - Black
Mental Health UK. www.blackmentalhealth.org.uk.

People should show their support by going to the site and lobbying
yotur MP. We also want people to circulate the web address as widely
as possible.

Discussions are also underway about mobilising our community to have
a mass march led by the churches for when the Government reconvenes
about this - would this be something that Black Prescence be
interested in supporting? At the moment The 1990 Trust, OBV, BLF, 100
Black Men and Unison are some of the organisations that have said that
they will support a march but in order to make the impact that is
needed we need to cast the net as wide as possible.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes
