Subject: 10.2 Beta tools & OS

Again, all you guys probably follow the updates from our dev site anyway but just in case... yesterday we had a major update of our development tools: the 10.2 Beta tools are available!

1. the 10.2 beta OS: we are making the beta OS available for download for Dev Alpha B & C devices (note this includes the JellyBean compatible Android Runtime!): http://developer.blackberry.com/blackberry10devalpha/devalpha_update.html (The necessary tools for repackaging Android 4.2.2 apps are also available as stand-alone command line tools and as an Eclipse plug-in.)

2. the 10.2 beta Momentics installer: much improved user experience for developers and the footprint of the download has been reduced to around 200mb! (The appropriate SDK will have to be downloaded though.)

3. updated UI guidelines: finally (due to popular demand) we have made a PowerPoint file available with all necessary resources to support wireframes for BlackBerry 10: http://developer.blackberry.com/design/bb10/ (Please let your designers know!)

Let me know if you have any questions/feedback!

Regards,

Michael Weitzel

Dear Sir,

Compliments.

I would like to use this opportunity to personally inform you about our event this month.

Mobile Monday Nigeria announces its first ever “Hackathon” bridging the worlds of software developers and graphic artists, an event which will take place in Lagos under the auspices of the Lagos State Government Ministry of Science and Technology and sponsorship by VConnect Global services (operators of the VConnect.com information search portal).

Theme
Developers are to create a mobile web application in ASP.NET or PHP enabling users discover great movies in local cinemas. User's should be able to locate movies based on their location and proximity to cinemas. The app should leverage social media API's to allow users to recommend & rate movies.

Output

* To engage a community of Developers and Facilitate the development of a “Mobile Optimized Web Application” that leverages VConnect’s data services for movies listings and viewing times.
* Developers are expected to utilize other freely available ‘social’ and ‘location based’ APIs to improve usability Andy continuous user engagement.

Coding Environment

Developers are expected to use ASP.NET or PHP [Hypertext Pre-Processor] as the middleware language with Microsoft SQL Server as the target database.

Overview of Task

· V-Connect will provide database structure with sample data on the day of the hackathon. Developers are free to modify or use their own database structure.

· In addition, Free versions of Google’s Maps API or any other Maps API to make the application more interactive.

· Social Elements for sharing (eg. Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus) can be added in order to make the site social.

· Reviews, Ratings and Trailers can be pulled using API’s of websites such as IMDB ( http://www.imdb.com ), Rotten Tomatoes ( http://www.rottentomatoes.com ) and Youtube ( http://www.youtube.com ). Features like commenting can be integrated to increase user interaction.

Team Size

The Team size is four. You can either come with your own team or pair up with other developers to form a team at the venue.

Prizes

· First Prize:         A 30 Day contract valued at $2,000 with Vconnect
· Second Prize:   $1000
· Third Prize:      $500

I and the rest of the Mobile Monday Nigeria team look forward to seeing you come Monday as we hack our way to “Entertainment Now”.
