The season starts with Damon and Bonnie gone and presumed dead. Elena, in a pretty spectacular attempt to hide from pain and heartbreak, has Alaric compel all of her memories of Damon away. He does come back (TVD without Damon is no show of mine) and they reunite, but it takes a while for the beautiful and tragic memories to come back. More on that soon...

He comes back from the dead (thanks Bonnie) but is still a mega-vampire (thus compelling the memories). He falls in love, gets killed (sort of), then comes back but this time as a human. Yeah, he had a pretty big season.

You probably already know that Nina Dobrev left TVD at the end of this season, but at least she had a really beautiful goodbye. Kai, evil genius that he is, linked Elena and Bonnie so that Elena will be in a sleeping-beauty like state until Bonnie dies. There was a second there where it looked like Damon was going to kill Bonnie to get Elena back... but in reality he is just going to wait 60 years for her until they can be together. Swoon.

Since 2009, The Vampire Diaries fans, including myself, have been arguing over Delena or Stelena (the two opposing relationships in the show), and unfortunately, that might have come to a screeching halt for many fans globally. Throughout the year of 2020, we have been faced with many challenges, and now Netflix users have been hit as well, since many of their favorite shows have begun leaving Netflix. Unluckily, the same thing is happening to our international vampire lovers. It was announced in previous months that the beloved vampire teen drama will be leaving the Netflix platform for those in the UK and Ireland.

The Vampire Diaries not only follows those three, but also focuses on Bonnie Bennet, Caroline Forbes, Tyler Lockwood, Jermey Gilbert, and Matt Donovan. Most of the gang all happen to be supernatural as well, forming a strong friendship between a witch, a vampire, a werewolf, a vampire hunter, and a normal human. The eight friends regularly find and put themselves into life-threatening situations that have caused each of them to die at least once in the span of the eight season supernatural show.

I have decided to petition to stop the vampires diaries from being removed off of Netflix (UK) on the 1st of November 2020.

This will impact me but especially the TVD fan base who love to binge watch the series.
I believe Netflix is the easiest way to access the full series of this show.

Get ready to say goodbye, Vampire Diaries fans. The end of the popular vampire show is here and after eight long seasons of doppelgngers, vampires, ghosts, witches, and more, it doesn't seem real that it's actually coming to a close. But, unfortunately, it is. Thankfully, for those who just can't let go, you can rewatch every season online, but when will The Vampire Diaries Season 8 be on Netflix? Fans won't have to wait long to relive the final season.

Thanks to the latest deal Netflix signed with The CW last year, all The CW's shows will release their entire season on the streaming service eight days after their season finale airs. Therefore, The Vampire Diaries' last season will be available for streaming on Netflix as early as Saturday, March 18. So for those of you who missed this final season or the past few seasons or never watched the series at all, you'll be able to binge-watch the entire series very soon.

The Vampire Diaries began airing in 2009 when vampires were all the rage. From Twilight to True Blood, TVD fit right in with the vampire book series adaptation phenomenon that hit in the early 2000s and the show stayed popular for many, many years. It even inspired the spin-off series The Originals, which will begin it's fourth season on Friday, March 17, taking up The Vampire Diaries vacated time slot.

When The Vampire Diaries began, it was all about Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) who soon realized her small hometown of Mystic Falls wasn't as safe as she always believed it was. After the death of her parents, she found comfort in Stefan Salvatore (Paul Weasley), but also ended up falling for his brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder), thus beginning one of television's most fought over love triangles.

Dobrev ended up leaving the series after the show's sixth season, but will return in the series finale. The show has changed a lot in the past eight years and the love triangle between Elena and the Salvatore brothers is now non-existent, thanks to Stefan now being fully in love with (and married to) Elena's best friend, Caroline Forbes (Candice King), and fine with Damon and Elena, also popularly known as "Delena," being together.

The only other remaining characters from the show's first season is Elena's other best friend and the town's resident (former) witch Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham), Elena's first boyfriend Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig), and Elena's former teacher Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis), who's died and come back a few times throughout the series.

According to International Business Times, Elena's Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning), Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino), and Elena's little brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) will most likely return for the series finale as well. So as sad as it'll be to say goodbye to this show that has dominated many fans' lives for the past eight years, at least viewers can always return to Mystic Falls if they choose to by way of streaming.

The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural teen drama television series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on the book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith. The series premiered on The CW on September 10, 2009, and concluded on March 10, 2017, having aired 171 episodes over eight seasons.

The pilot episode attracted the largest audience for The CW of any series premiere since the network launched in 2006;[1] the first season averaged 3.60 million viewers.[2] It became the most-watched series on the network before being surpassed by Arrow. The show has received numerous award nominations, winning four People's Choice Awards and many Teen Choice Awards.

In April 2015, lead actress Nina Dobrev, who played Elena Gilbert, confirmed that she would be leaving the show after its sixth season. Dobrev returned to record a voice-over for the seventh-season finale and returned as a guest star in the series finale.[3] In March 2016, The CW renewed the series for an eighth season,[4] but in July of that year announced that the eighth season, consisting of 16 episodes, would be the show's last.[5]

The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a town charged with supernatural history. It follows the life of Elena Gilbert, a teenage girl who has just lost both parents in a car crash, as she falls in love with a 161-year-old vampire named Stefan Salvatore, who she thinks is just a normal human. Their relationship becomes increasingly intricate as Stefan's mysterious older brother Damon Salvatore returns to Mystic Falls with a plan to bring back their past love, Katherine Pierce, who is Elena's doppelgnger. Although Damon initially holds a grudge against his brother for forcing him to become a vampire, he later reconciles with Stefan and falls in love with Elena, creating a love triangle among the three. Both brothers attempt to protect Elena as they face various villains and threats to their town, including Katherine. The Salvatore brothers' pasts and the town's history along with its secrets are revealed through flashbacks as the series goes on.

Additional storylines revolve around the other inhabitants of the town, most notably Elena's younger brother Jeremy Gilbert and aunt Jenna Sommers, her best friends Bonnie Bennett and Caroline Forbes, their mutual friends Matt Donovan and Tyler Lockwood, Matt's older sister Vicki Donovan, and their history teacher, vampire hunter Alaric Saltzman. The town's politics are orchestrated by the Founders' council, comprising descendants of the founding families: the Fells, the Forbes', the Lockwoods, the Gilberts, and the Salvatores. They guard the town mainly from vampires and other supernatural threats such as werewolves, witches, hybrids (werewolf/vampire), and ghosts.

Initially, Kevin Williamson had little interest in developing the series, as he found the premise too similar to the Twilight novels. However, at the urging of Julie Plec, he began to read the books. He started to become intrigued by the story: "I began to realize that it was a story about a small town, about that town's underbelly and about what lurks under the surface."[19] Williamson has stated the town's story will be the main focus of the series rather than high school.[20]

The pilot episode was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. However, the rest of the seasons have been filmed in Covington, Georgia (which doubles as the show's fictional small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia) and various other communities around Greater Atlanta[23] to take advantage of local tax incentives. On the morning of May 10, 2012, a fire broke out in the building on Clark Street in Covington that was used as the setting for Mystic Grill on the show.[24]

The series was given a full 22-episode order on October 21, 2009, after strong ratings for the first half of the season. On February 16, 2010, The CW announced that it had renewed the show for a second season,[25] which premiered on September 9, 2010.[26] On April 26, 2011, The CW renewed the show for a third season.[27] The third season premiered on September 15, 2011.[28] The fourth season premiered on October 11, 2012. The CW renewed the show for a fifth season on February 11, 2013.[29] On February 13, 2014, The CW renewed the series for a sixth season.[30] On January 11, 2015, the CW renewed the series for a seventh season.
