WhenI play the same 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos test tones video (MP4 file with Dolby Digital Plus audio) from my iPhone (from Safari) via AirPlay to the Apple TV or Roku Ultra, the LFE channel only plays from the Sub while the Arc remains silent. This seems like how the LFE test tone is supposed to play rather than the result I get with the Blu-ray disc above.
So what exactly is happening here? When I play movies on Blu-ray disc in Dolby Atmos, everything seems to sound fine. Why is the pink noise playing on the Arc during the LFE channel test on the Dolby Atmos test tones Blu-ray disc?
If this is the case, why do the left front, right front, and center channel test tones play separately out of the proper drivers on the Arc? And how would this explain the same test tones video playing correctly via AirPlay to the Apple TV or Roku Ultra?
Dolby Atmos Test Tones are designed to help you set up and calibrate your Dolby Atmos system. They provide audio signals that allow you to test the various configurations of your system, including 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2, and 7.1.4. The test tones are available as both lossless audio files and mp3 files.
Dolby Atmos is the latest in audio technology, and it's now available in select m2ts and mkv Demo Trailers for Download. This new audio format creates a more immersive soundscape, with better positional audio and a wider soundstage. Whether you're watching a movie or playing a game, Dolby Atmos Demo Trailers will provide you with a truly unique audio experience.
(I haven't been able to get more than a list of stock starter questions back from Sonarworks support so far, with no real acknowledgment of what I actually wrote and sent, but maybe someone else has encountered this and found a solution. For posterity, all of this was with version 5.10.0.54)
The Mac and Oria -are- configured correctly. -All- test tones, including Ltr and Rtr, sound properly from Audio MIDI Setup (when SoundID isn't running and their sound driver hasn't hijacked the sysem, at least). Further, the Dolby 7.1.4 Channel ID track on Apple Music properly sounds each channel.
(For perspective, I am moving to this Oria from a Focusrite 8 Pre, BSS BluDAN DANTE-BluLink Interface, JBL Intonato 24 combo. I was able to get that conglomeration working and calibrated my system in less time than I've spent debugging Sonarworks already. Extremely disappointed.)
If you tell Sonarworks you are calibrating a generic system INSTEAD of an Oria, you can get a calibration to run to completion. You do need to remap the speakers in the hardware setup screen, but it will run.
By the way, there REALLY should be a step in the Measure app reminded you to go set and turn on Crossover for all of the speakers after it creates the New Measurement profile. Even if you have 80Hz set for the ear-levels and heights, Measure will make a new profile with crossovers OFF and set to 100Hz. I remembered the first five times, and of course, on the experiment that partially worked, I forgot.
Export to Oria hung the app the first time, but I was able to kill Sound ID Reference, try again, and get it to work. Of course, I had to do all of the crossover settings again after importing the profile to the Oria since it wrote them at 100Hz and Off. I was then also able to do an export with the Dolby calibration curve layered.
- Click the "Configure Speakers..." button in the bottom right of the window. Click the "Multichannel" tab. Then select "5.1 Surround" from the pull down menu. Click on each speaker to provide a test tone to make sure each is connect properly. Then click on "Apply"
- Last set is to go into the DVD Player to test it. Go to "Preferences" and click on the "Disc Setup" tab. Under Audio at the bottom of the window select "Digital Out - SONY AVAMP" from the drop down menu for "Audio output" *You now have 5.1 Channel Surround Sound from you Mac!
I have a follow-up question to this original post... I haven't tried any of this yet since I just ordered a new iMac and haven't received it yet, but will definitely try it out once it arrives (on my cheap RCAreceiver haha). I know it has poor reviews on Walmart, but honestly, I've had this for about a year now and absolutely no complaints. If configured properly, the device works flawlessly. Not the best speakers, but not bad... Definitely loud. Just don't know if it'll work with the new computer.
ANYWAY, my question is: As long as the setup from the original post works and 5.1 audio is outputted from the Mac, has anyone tried using a surround project with FCX with this setup and if so, how stable is it? This is my only reason for wanting to output in 5.1, but I just want know if anyone has encountered any problems with it.
Thanks for the response! I haven't been able to output in 5.1 because my iMac won't read the receiver correctly. It usually lists my recevier as "LCD TV" and only gives me the option of two channels. I guess I can fool around with it. It may be due to my TV actually being hooked up to the receiver at the same time as the iMac, so instead of just decoding audio, the computer thinks I'm trying to use my TV as an external monitor (which only uses two channel audio). In fact, now that I'm writing this I think that's my issue. I'll play around.
Looks great for DVD player, but how do I get iTunes to recognize the multichannel settings? Testing speakers in the midi setup worked to get test tones out of my surround and sub but no go with iTunes.
I use the RCA connections to my Klipsch 2.1 Pro media speakers and a toslink optical connection to my 7.1 Yamaha AV receiver. I let my AV receiver handle all the decoding for surround sound. THX, DTS, Dolby Digital, Prologic, Cinema sound, 7 channel stereo, etc....They all work.
I have tried this with my Panasonic TV/Bluray. It shows up as it should in the Audio MIDI Setup but it only accepts 2 channels as an option. If I go to the speaker settings and select multi channels the 5.1 option is greyed out (as are all options except stereo).
Hi here. I have had the same problem but have fixed it so hope this works for you. When you are in the AUDIO MIDID SETUP, select HDMI and then on the right next to when you can select the FORMAT, use options 48000.0 HZ and 8ch-16bit Integer. You can then select Configure Speakers, Multichannel and 5.1 Surround from the drop down. When testing the speakers you may have to use the drop downs under each speaker to change the numbers for which speaker is where. Good luck :-) hope it works
TWC tech people trying to help also, but is really a dtv box problem. if i have dolby enabled and am on twc when a severe weather alert is issued they send a loud tone. when they send the tone they switch from dolby to pcm and back to dolby, but somehow that messes up the dtv box so if you change channels you lose audio... but if you change back to twc and hear another alert it will come back. you can also get back audio on the channel by switching dolby off and back on... but you lose it again on the next channel change. leaving dolby off seems to avoid the problem, so maybe many users haven't seen it.
yes, i have a dolby capable 5.1 surround sound receiver getting fed with hdmi from the dtv box. it has been working fine for years except for a previously noted similar problem a couple years back. the receiver does display the switches from dolby to pcm so i can see the switch during the alert tones, but then it doesn't signal format changes unless i turn dolby off from the dtv box menu.
Are you connected to an Audio Receiver or using the TV's speakers? If the TV's speakers open the Menu -> Settings and Help -> Settings -> Audio -> Dolby Digital -> set to off. The TV cannot properly use the Dolby signal but more importantly, the switch back and forth Dolby to PCM causes a handshake issue in HDMI connected systems.
A switch in audio coding must be triggering a HDMI handshake issue in the AVR. The Directv box has no adjustments available in this regard, but if your AVR is anything like my Denon AVR-1913, it has a lot of various settings that may help handle this situation. Over the years we've seen a lot of video issues with AVR's, and many if not most can be corrected by adjusting the AVR itself. Unfortunately in some cases the user is convinced there is something wrong with the Directv receiver so an impasses develops and continues.
Inasmuch as you posted your problem in a technical forum I assume you seek a resolution? You can test the "handshake" issue for yourself. Disconnect both HDMI cables from your setup and substitute component video and RCA audio in their place. You might also try disabling Dolby in your DVR. These would be temporary measures of course intended to narrow the hunt for a reason for the problem.
