I am trying to activate a license for NI Vision Development Module Run-Time. I have the license, activated it to get my codes, etc. but when I go to the license manager there is no option on the little pop up for "No internet connection? Continue with offline activation". I have activated many licenses this way before and have never had this issue. Any idea why this may be happening?
What version of NI License Manager are you using? What workflow are you using to get to the dialog you are expecting and could you send a screenshot? Also, for completeness, is your system fully offline, on an offline local network, or actually online, etc? Finally, if you open NI License Manager, go to the Local Licenses tab, right-click the project, and select "Activate":
Workflow: Open license manager application and click "activate software" at top of application, this is where no option to activate online is available. Referencing this website. Attached photo as well.
When opening license manager, navigating to local licenses tab - there is only the option to activate two vision modules. Attached screenshot for reference. Not "my project" per say if that is what you were directly looking for. No option to activate online.
The feature you're looking for (the prompt to activate offline within the wizard) was added in a later version of NILM than you have on your system. There were improvements made to better support network setups like yours (local network with no network access). The latest version available is NILM 21.8.1.
Typical NI software activation relies on an internet connection. However, if you have a computer that does not have access to the internet, you are still able to activate your software by using activation codes or a disconnected license.
If you are part of a Volume License Agreement, you can activate software on your offline computer by contacting your admin to create a disconnected license file, and then follow steps to install the disconnected license.
If you have a Single-Seat License, follow the steps below to activate software on your offline computer.
Somewhere it maybe mentioned, but for certain, I would have saved a few hours if it was clearly written in the community edition page, that we must be logged into our account when downloading and installing. Additionally it could be mentioned that this is to allow the NI License Manager to automatically include and update for the community edition, no serial number needed, which would remove our experience from the past clouding the way into the future Thanks for this thread which made the install possible!
I have (had? Might have?) 3 different NI accounts. I could see problems with existing account holders if they don't pay attention ... like down loading CE "at work" then taking it home and trying to install it. (IE work vs home account)
At this time, you must be connected to the internet to activate LabVIEW Community Edition. We are working on improvements to allow for offline activation in the future, but it isn't available with this release.
I just installed LV2020CE on my shop/lab computer in a remote building that has no internet connection ... after downloading the iso file to my main computer while logged onto my NIUA. LV2020CE is listed on My Products page with no serial number showing.
The NI License Manager activation screen on the target pc tells me I can get an activation code at ni.com/activate using the Computer ID showing onscreen ... but this is not possible without a serial number, which does not exist for LC2020CE.
Unless NI fixes this issue to allow activation without a serial number for a different pc without internet access, then my only option is to get temporary internet access for the target pc so I can log onto my NIUA from the computer I want to activate. My WiFi does not reach the shop building, but maybe I can use my phone data link as a hotspot to get temporary access to ni.com ... or haul the desktop pc to a location with internet service.
No additional response from NI is needed or expected. The other post stated that LC2020CE MUST be activated with logon to NIUA from the target pc ... with no other options possible for the time being.
After tethering to my phone, I was able to logon to my NIUA directly from NI License Manager on the target pc and successfully activate. (No need to use an internet browser.) I think it's a requirement that you previously downloaded the LC2020CE iso file while logged onto your NIUA to get LC2020CE to show up on your My Products listing.
You must connect the USB cable to your phone first, otherwise the Tethering USB switch is greyed out. I think I recall seeing a note that this USB Tether does not work from a Mac target. No idea if/how it works with iPhones.
If you create a post-build custom action (Note: This requires VIPM Pro or VIPM Community, and won't work with VIPM Free) you can unpack the package (meaning: unzip the .vip file to a folder), modify the spec file (set the "restart labview..." key to TRUE), and then repack the package (zip it back up into a .vip file).
The options on the "Advanced LabVIEW Requirements" area only supported in VIPM Pro. My guess is that this .vipb was created with VIPM Pro, but the copy of VIPM you're using is not activated as VIPM Pro. VIPM will still build the package if you have VIPM Free activated, but it resets those flags to FALSE during the build.
Hi Ivan. Yes, VIPM checks the package integrity. I think it must be an issue that VIPM Community is not running the post-build custom actions. I'll have our team look into this as well. I'll ping you offline about how we can get a work-around for you.
Activating GI.bench requires a Ticket ID, which is displayed on your purchase order confirmation. If you do not have a Ticket ID, kindly reach out to your local Gantner Instruments sales representative for assistance.
When using GI.bench V1.14.x or later with a license dongle, activation of GI.bench is not necessary. Simply insert the dongle into your PC, and you will be ready to use the full functionality of GI.bench. If you have previously used the PC with a fixed license, please remove the license file (giservice.lic) from the directory C:\Users\Public\Documents\Gantner Instruments\GI.bench\ before using the license dongle.
After installation, run GI.bench. It will prompt you to activate the software; select ONLINE activation.
Alternatively, users can access this license option menu through GI.service, located in the Windows taskbar.
If there is a license/seat available on your Ticket ID, you will see a section called Upload a License Request File at the bottom of the window. Enter your contact information and click Choose File to upload the License Request File. Click OK at the bottom when complete.
GI.bench should now be activated and display "Licensed" in the title bar of the GI.bench window. You have the option to select different user modes by going to Settings > General > User Experience.
If you encounter an error code -1 message after completing the online or offline activation process, it indicates that no available GI.bench license can be found on your ticket ID, and therefore, GI.bench cannot be activated.
Recent discussions on the Info-LabVIEW mailing list prompted a request to initiate a thread here for further discuss and to accumulate opinions on this topic. I've also attached a POLL to this message so you can vote on several licensing options. Feel free to vote or just reply to this topic with your opinion.
Other bothersome issues include NI's volume license manager. Each TestStand development system must have a unique software key that is obtained from NI's volume license manager utility of from NI itself. The TestStand development system will not run without it. If you use the utility, you must
install it on a PC, server, or whatever, along with a license file provided by NI. This license file determines your license usage and it is given back to NI at the end of your license period. You can even 'borrow' licenses you haven't purchased and NI will send you a bill for your extra license usage. (Imagine getting a bill for unbudgeted license use, after you've already had
it for a year) If you don't want to install and administer the license manager software, you can go to NI directly for each license. In any event, anytime you want to install, uninstall, or move licenses around, you have to
I had a meeting with NI sales reps yesterday and I mentioned Otto's remarks. Their response was the LabVIEW is the only NI software product not using the license manager and to expect that future versions will use it.
At my company we have enough licenses to be legal, but I can see where this will be a hassle. There are times when I need to transfer my license between computers temporarily and they will not have network access for license sharing. The only easy solution is to buy a PDS or FDS for each new test system AND yearly subscriptions! That would really add up!
