ARTICLE ON PURITY
1.DEFINITION :
Total Purity [Sampoorna Pavitrata] is normally defined as Completely Viceless [Sampoorna Nirvikari] in Thoughts,Words and Deeds [Mansa,Vacha and Karmana]. In AM dated 2-2-2008, BapDada has nicely explained the concept of Total Purity as“-- under Total Purity our Attitude [vrati], Vision [drashti] and Deeds [krati] must be completely pure ie good wishes and pure feelings towards each soul [vrati], being in soul conscious stage and seeing each person as soul [drashti] and giving & taking only happiness [krati]. Having understood the concept lets move towards its inculcation.
2.MIND-INTELLECT-ACTION-SANSKAR DIAGRAM [MIS Model] : ---
External events àMind àIntellect àAction àSanskaarsàMind (Internal source for Mind)
A look at The Mind-Intellect – Action -- Sanskar Diagram indicates that thoughts are forwarded from the Mind to the Intellect where either the Intellect approves and brings the thought into action OR disapproves it, based on the Intellect’s filter of value system, belief system, education system and / or society norms etc. In both the cases of approval & disapproval a sanskar is formed. If any of the two types of cycle is repeated several times for a particular type of thought, the sanskar gets reinforced and the mind, intellect and body start responding to that thought in a programmed pattern, commonly called as Habit or Nature. Obviously the quality of our words and deeds depend on the quality of our thoughts AND / OR the extent of divinity of the Intellect’s filter of value system / belief pattern. Hence just by controlling the quality of our thoughts at the source level itself AND / OR by making the Intellect more Divine by changing its filter of value system / belief pattern, in order to reject any non-divine thought at the Intellect level, we can be free from anger, wasteful thinking, ordinary thinking and negative thinking completely, resulting in only elevated actions and words. In recent AM dated 5-2-2012 [revised AM dt.7-11-95], BabaDada said “If you examine it, out of all the five vices, from lust to attachment, when any vice comes ,it first enters thoughts. So all of you should put into practice-the significance of purity in thoughts.”
3.SOURCES OF THOUGHTs:
Now let us go to the origin of thoughts. The Mind generates thoughts, based on both external stimulus and internal source. Under external stimulus our physical organs give inputs to mind based on what we hear, see, touch, smell or eat, whereas as an internal source, our old habits / sanskars stored in Sub-concious memory, provide inputs to the mind in the form of smriti (awareness). Now let us study / control these two sources i.e., external and internal sources separately.
I.EXTERNAL SOURCE :The Code of Conducts [maryadas] prescribed by Baba, from morning to evening such as Never Missing Daily Amritvela and Murli, making & taking pure food [ Brahma bhojan] in yaad of Baba, not seeing TV-serials / cinemas /magazines [except reading news items],listening to only Baba’s knowledge, praise, music and not wasting time in useless gossips, being karamyogi and remaining in the seat of self respect etc can control the quality of inputs from external sources to a large extent.
II.INTERNAL SOURCE ii.:As regards inputs from internal source i.e., old habits / sanskars, we need to follow special techniques to control their quality , depending upon whether these sanskars are Mild / Newly formed Sanskars OR they are Die-hard / Old Sanskars.
b. Being busy in playing with ‘Jewels of Knowledge: It includes silent reflection & daily churning of Godly knowledge which keeps our mind / intellect busy and bring transformation in our intellect’s filter of value system / belief patterns and transform it into Divine Intellect. It helps in changing our nature / sanskars. This is also called Cognitive Approach for self change. c. Accepting Responsibility : Sharing responsibilities of world transformation in a formal way wherein I am questionable, leads to easy self change.
a. Psycho feedback Technique: Under this method our Subconscious Mind [Antarman / chitt] is trained in stages by repeated suggestions in mind to give immediate feedback to us whenever negative or waste thoughts tend to emerge. After giving the feedback, the Subconscious Mind is again suggested repeatedly to react in a programmed positive way at that moment, washing away all the effects of the emerged negative thoughts. The repetitive suggestions results in reinforcement of that particular trait / sanskar as the Subconscious Mind is unable to distinguish BETWEEN an action performed in reality and witnessed with the physical eyes AND an action imagined and seen through the mind’s eye. This drawback of Subconscious Mind helps us to merge our old die-hard sanskars and thereby change the internal inputs to the Mind. The following example clarifies the same :--
1.Suggestions in 1st Stage, to be repeated twice -- ' I shall come to know immediately when my mind is getting occupied with negative or waste thoughts and in a fraction of moment I shall have full control over them, thereby replacing the same with the thoughts that will make me happy, peaceful, satisfied & enthusiastic.'
2.Suggestions repeated twice in 2nd stage--'Day by day I am continuously thinking positively and positivity is coming spontaneously in me.Positive thinking is becoming an un-seperable part of my personality’.
b. Desensitization Technique :This technique is very effective in winning over phobias, shocks, traumatic experiences, fear of failures, bodily attractions and to desensitize feelings & emotions of lust etc. In the AM of 2nd May,2010 [revised 18th July,1971], titled Maha Mantar and Mahan Antar where Baba talked about the Will Power & Controlling Power and for that, The need to –‘constantly keep the Great Contrast (mahan Antar) in front of you as your intellect will automatically go to that which is elevated. Your intellect will naturally not go to that which is felt to be wasteful, impure & falsehood’.
Example:Imagine a particular person to whom you have been very much attached (moh). The relation may be of physical attraction or due to good qualities but it may not be in line with Baba’s Shrimat. In such a case, visualise that person (him / her) in the last two three incidences and keep Bapdada next to him / her, in the surroundings — visualise yourself distinctly and see your emotional expression — you are completely relaxed --- self concentrated and indifferent to him / her— you are interested more in Baba and interacting with Him only, ignoring even the presence of him / her. All the passion for him / her is gradually clearing out of your mind and he / she is not having any special’ appeal in your mind.
I found this technique very effective and turning out quick results.
OM SHANTI.
