1. General Introduction about ERI

ERI at a glance will present you what is ERI and, how this one of Sun's
Global growth R&D Center runs here.

Speaker: Maggie Liu

Maggie Liu, the communication and operation program manager at ERI. She
has been with Sun for about 6.5 years and spent the last three years in
current position. Maggie also used to work on Sun university program
and work closely with students.

2. Dtrace for Beginners

DTrace is a comprehensive dynamic tracing framework created by Sun
Microsystems for troubleshooting kernel and application problems on
production systems in real time. Originally developed for Solaris, it
has since been released under the free Common Development and
Distribution License (CDDL) and has been ported to several other
Unix-like systems.

DTrace can be used to get a global overview of a running system, such as
the amount of memory, CPU time, filesystem and network resources used by
the active processes. It can also provide much more fine-grained
information, such as a log of the arguments with which a specific
function is being called, or a list of the processes accessing a
specific file.

Speaker: Brian Xu

Brian Xu, development engineer in device driver team, joined SUN ERI in
2003. He has rich experience in solaris kernel, device drivers, debug
tools etc. He is now focus on the performance tunning of the device
drivers. Dtrace helped him a lot to figure out where the bottlenecks
were in the drivers for performance tunning.
