I only got to come to one of your events on my last trip to China, but I had a great time meeting you all. I'm a journalist living in San Francisco, traveling frequently to China, and I'm launching a new environmental "micro-publication" with 5 other top-notch journalists. We'll be doing independent, in-depth reporting on global environmental issues, with a focus on solutions and problem solvers. I'd love to have the support of the Beijing green drinks community in launching our publication.
It's called Climate Confidential and we'll be writing stories about the intersection of technology and the environment, focused around monthly themes. Each of us specializes in something — I'm the China/manufacturing/industrial guy, but there are also
health and wellness,
cleantech,
renewable energy,
water, and
automotive experts on the team.
Subscriptions are $5/month, and we need to get 800 subscribers by March 5th in order to produce our first "issue." I'd love love love to have your support this week to help us reach our goal. Our first monthly theme is "Unconventional Wisdom." We'll be looking at the surprising messages that drive energy conservation efforts, the dirty little secrets of small-scale manufacturing, and more.
Your $5 goes a long way. We're using a new platform called Beacon. It's a sort of a hybrid between
a crowdfunding site and a
subscriber-only magazine. Once you back a project (
ahem), you get access to all of the other writers publishing on Beacon. It's like.... if you backed us on Kickstarter and then got one of every other widget someone else made ever. Pretty awesome.
This allows us to do independent, ad-free journalism. We get 75% of the revenue from subscriptions we bring in, and the remainder gets distributed among the rest of the Beacon writers, based on reader feedback. We're excited to not only be building something we love, but supporting other great writers, too.* Using Beacon will allow us to focus on content rather than advertisers, and on building relationships with readers instead of building a website.
We could also use help spreading the word! Please share with others that you think would be interested or able to support!
If you, or someone you know, has a company that might want to sponsor or buy a group subscription, that would be amazing, as well. We're offering discounted packages for multiple subscriptions and such. Info is on
the page, or I can totally answer questions.
Best,
Celeste
