Hello all,

Just wanted to send a gentle reminder to bring something that was destined for the recycle bin to class today. A piece of clothing.

Also, Professor Hatcher asked if you could all take a few moments to write about a piece of clothing about which you have feelings, inspired by the piece you read for today about Allon's jacket. Have you had an Allon's jacket in your life? It doesn't have to be about mourning, it might be about a joyful feeling you have had about a garment.

I believe we talked about this during class last week, but I just wanted to remind you that your written reflections in this vein will be part of our class today.

Looking forward!

Happy Saturday,

Ayeshia here.  I've missed the last two weeks (Parent Teacher Conferences, grades due, blah, blah).

I just wanted to know what the readings are for Thursday's class.  Are we on track was there a change, etc.

Thank you and enjoy the weekend,

Ayeshia

Hello Lisa,

We are reading excerpts from The Price of Beauty, there is a short story by Chopin that was sent for last week's class-I believe we will discuss the story this week. I brought in a piece titles "Levi's" by M. Schiel--you can find the online.

I don't have my notes in front of me but if there are more readings I will let you know.

Be well,

Ayeshia

Somebody has the chapters of the book The Price of Beauty? I haven't
found it on the bb or the google group documents.

Hi All,

I just saw these, and was in the process of putting up an announcement and sending an email about the readings for Thursday.

The readings are in the Contents section and are both entitled Mears (two of them). They are from her ethnography of the modeling industry, Pricing Beauty.

I am also going to add an unpublished manuscript which is going to be published this spring in the WSQ issue on Fashion which I am editing that I think you all might find interesting and relevant to the discussion that the Mears readings will no doubt engender.  No pun intended. Well, maybe a little pun.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday! Hope we get our numbers back up. Ksenia? Do you think you will be able to come? Millie? Adie?

Please email me with any questions or anything you'd like to note or bring into class for all of us to see.

Have a good rest of the weekend!
