WIRED FOR ACTION
Tuesday, January 23rd, 1996

Today's con artist no longer relies on "a check in the mail" to complete
fraudulent transactions. New, electronic transmission networks are
available to part a victim from his money almost instantly. Watch out
whenever anyone requests that you send money via Western Union or any other
automated payment system - VISA or MasterCard cash advances, for example.

Best advice is to know exactly who you are sending money to. If in doubt,
call the National Fraud Information Center's toll free hotline for advice
on what - and what not - to do.

If you spot obviously illegal operations on the E-Ways, please
forward copies of the messages to NFIC at frau...@psinet.com.
