Thorough familiarity with writing Java code, creating Enterprise Java Beans and servlets.
Thorough familiarity with JBoss or similar Enterprise Java server. The candidate should be able to administer these servers.
Thorough familiarity with Web Services and development of web applications; the candidate should be very familiar with Tomcat.
Experience with at least one major RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, MySQL)
Should be very familiar with complex SQL queries. Ability to use a reporting tool is a considerable plus.
Should be familiar with UNIX/LINUX, should know Shell scripts.
Excellent understanding of basic computer science concepts - parsing, binary searches, linked lists, etc.
Ability to understand and address complex problems and systems.
Openness to learning new technologies.
