PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

ISA Communications Controller

The ISA Communications Controller is a high-performance controller
designed to drive up to 64 synchronous or asynchronous serial channels in
an industrial environment. Output characteristics are also impressive,
with each channel parameterised in RS-232, RS-485 or RS-422 mode by
software, with a maximum transfer speed of 4 Megabits per second on the
three high-speed channels in synchronous mode. Supported protocols that
can run simultaneously on each channel include Bisync, SDLC, HDLC, LAPB
and X.25.

The following operating systems are supported: MS-DOS, Windows 3.1,
Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5 (on PC and Digital Alpha), SCO UNIX, and
OS9000.

An eight-speed FAX modem is also available as an option.

Digital Communication Server

The Digital Communication Server allows any station running Digital UNIX
to connect to wide area networks (WANs) through two 64 kilobits per
second lines. Based on a DEChub 90 module, the Digital Communication
Server can be shared by up to 20 stations connected on the Ethernet LAN.

Twin-Ethernet Communication Controller

The new Twin-Ethernet 10-Mb TURBOchannel Controller provides two thick
wire Ethernet ports per TURBOchannel option slot.

Up to three controllers can be placed in a TURBOchannel host, which
together with the Ethernet port on the motherboard provides access to
seven LANs. The following operating systems are available: OpenVMS VAX,
OpenVMS Alpha, Digital UNIX.

A four-Ethernet 10-Megabit-per-second PCI controller will soon be
available.

Bisynchronous on synchronous platforms

Several bisynchronous protocols are available on the following WAN
synchronous platforms: DSYT1, DNSES, and Digital Communication Server.
Various versions have been developed for users' legacy applications, from
IBM bisynchronous to ASCII bisynchronous including SWIFT.

2780/3780 protocol emulation on Alpha

The 2780/3780 Protocol Emulator (PE) on OpenVMS Alpha emulates the
synchronous line protocol used by an IBM 2780 or a 3780 remote batch
terminal. The emulator provides the user with a mechanism for
transferring data between the host operating system and another system
equipped to handle 2780 or 3780 communications protocols.

The 2789/3780 can run up to four physical lines, each with a different
set of line attributes at speeds between 1200 bits per second and 19200
bits per second per line.

This new product has an interface similar to the previous VAX product,
2780/3780 Protocol Emulators for VAX VMS, enabling existing 2780/3780
protocol emulator users on VAX to easily migrate to Alpha systems.
