PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The AlphaServer 1000 4/266 system is a 266 MHz Alpha server in a deskside
tower enclosure that supports up to 1 GB of RAM, and runs Digital UNIX,
OpenVMS, or Windows NT software. It replaces the AlphaServer 1000 4/233 at
the same price. The system was designed to offer investment protection
through easy CPU daughtercard upgrades to faster processors. Expandability
using PC industry-standard components, such as 72-pin 36 bit SIMMs, provides
outstanding system performance at an affordable price. The following
components are integrated on the system motherboard:
o Industry standard SVGA controller
o Floppy disk controller
o Two serial ports and one parallel port
o Keyboard and mouse controller
o LCD operator control panel
o PCI-based fast SCSI-2 controller
The AlphaServer 1000 is well suited for use as a PC LAN server for a large
number of users, or a database or applications server. It is available as a
packaged Internet server for Digital UNIX, or, with a separately available
Internet Software Kit, a user can build one to individual specifications.
Windows NT Web AlphaServer systems, based on the AlphaServer 1000 4/266, are
a subset of the Internet AlphaServer family, and provide everything needed
to create and maintain an operational home page on the World Wide Web. (For

article in this issue of Customer Update.) BackOffice packages are also
available.
The AlphaServer 1000 4/266 reliability features include:
o Heat, fan failure, and power supply sensors
o LCD operator control panel
o Remote diagnostics port, accessible through a simple serial link
Digital's clustering technology includes DECsafe Available Server for
Digital UNIX systems and full support for OpenVMS (DSSI) and SCSI clusters.
This software, coupled with the dependable AlphaServer system, provides high
availability, high performance, and linear expandability across the
computing environment.
Business critical applications can run unattended, as management features
provide early indications of potential system failures. The reliability
features, combined with simple management features, make the AlphaServer
1000 ideal for organizations with little or no MIS support. Remote diagnosis
capability allows administrators to further reduce support costs because
onsite visits and service calls are minimized.

SERVICES
Hardware warranty
Three years onsite, nine hours a day, next day response, five days a week
coverage. Parts and labor are included.
Software warranty
All operating systems and NAS 150 and 200 packages have a 90-day warranty,
conformance to SPD, and advisory telephone support. Users who require a
higher level of support during the warranty period should consider
AlphaServer Supplemental Service Packages, which will upgrade the three year
warranty from five days a week, nine hours a day, next-day service to a
four-hour guaranteed response time. For more information and additional
