PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Bristol Technology, Inc.'s Wind/U V3.0 for OpenVMS operating system is a
developer's tool for porting applications to OpenVMS and is an
implementation of Microsoft's Windows APIs under DECwindows Motif for
OpenVMS. Wind/U V3.0 for OpenVMS allows developers to code to Windows
APIs and then compile the same source on Windows and then on OpenVMS or
UNIX systems. Wind/U V3.0 for OpenVMS runs on OpenVMS V6.2 or later.
Key features
o Implementation of Win32 in Wind/U V3.0 for OpenVMS is closely analogous
to the Win32s implementation. The major focus of the product is
compatibility with Visual C++ and Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) V4.0.
Wind/U for OpenVMS will port applications written with Visual C++ 2.1 and
MFC 4.0.
o Support for Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) library V4.0.
o Full support for Windows sockets (WinSock DDL), which provides networking
capabilities to Windows applications.
o XPrinter software adds sophisticated printing capabilities to OpenVMS or
UNIX based applications.
o Support for 12 pre-built Win95 common controls that are in the Windows NT
3.51 and Windows 95 operating systems, including tree view, list view,
progress bars, header, tab controls, and toolbars.
In addition, Bristol Technology, Inc., has ported HyperHelp to OpenVMS.
HyperHelp is industry-standard software for creating OpenVMS- or
UNIX-based online help systems with WinHelp functionality. HyperHelp is a
complementary product to the Wind/U V3.0 for OpenVMS development kit and
will be sold separately by Bristol Technology, Inc. Bristol Technology,
Inc., has also implemented Digital's License Management Facility (LMF)
software.
BENEFITS
o Single source code base allows software developers to build Windows 95,
Windows NT, UNIX, and OpenVMS applications from a single source code base
o Wind/U for OpenVMS applications will achieve native DECwindows Motif for
OpenVMS performance
o Developers can write in a variety of 3GLs, including C, C++, or
Microsoft's Visual C++ (on the PC side)
o Software is automatically installed with OpenVMS V7.0
AVAILABILITY AND ORDERING
The Wind/U Bristol runtime binaries are being distributed with OpenVMS
V7.0. Users should contact Bristol Technology, Inc., to purchase the
product and obtain a license (PAK).
The licenses for the Bristol products are sold separately and are not
included in the OpenVMS operating system license. Digital is distributing
the Wind/U binaries with OpenVMS as a user convenience. All OpenVMS users
who have V7.0 or greater automatically receive the product binaries.
Users should contact Bristol Technology, Inc., at (203) 438-6969 for
their product authorization key (PAK).
Developers must purchase one Wind/U V3.0 for OpenVMS developer license
for each system on which they develop. Each workstation
platform/operating system combination requires its own specific version
of the Wind/U developer license. Developers should contact Bristol
Technology, Inc., to purchase and obtain the product binaries and
licenses.
End users need one license per concurrent user of the Wind/U V3.0 for
OpenVMS runtime license. Therefore, if there are 10 simultaneous users on
a network, 10 licenses are required. If multiple servers are available on
a networked system, one license per user per server is required. Licenses
per seat/volume discounts are available.
