PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Business Recovery Server V1.4 is a software and services integration
package for implementing a disaster-tolerant system. Business Recovery
Server V1.4 allows users to link two datacenters or sites that are
geographically separate to form a single, secure management domain. If a
disaster occurs at one of the sites, Business Recovery Server V1.4
ensures that operations continue running at the second site with minimal
disruption.
A disaster-tolerant Business Recovery Server system spans two sites that
can be connected by FDDI, ATM, or T3 intersite links. Both sites use
OpenVMS Cluster software to communicate and volume shadowing to shadow
critical data across sites. Each site has an Operations Management
Station node, one of which controls the entire Business Recovery Server
cluster. If one site fails, the other Operations Management Station node
takes over.
Business Recovery Server V1.4 supports OpenVMS V6.2. The Operations
Management Station portion now runs under OpenVMS VAX V6.1, and now
supports the VAXstation 4000 Model 96 system, in addition to the
previously supported VAX systems.
In addition, Business Recovery Server V1.4 supports new hardware,
including FDDI Storage Server, the DECserver 90 and 900 products, the
DECconcentrator 900 products, the DECbridge (or DECswitch) 90 and 900
products, and the AlphaServer 2000 and AlphaServer 8000 products.
Installation and configuration features that are new in Business Recovery
Server V1.4 include
o An integrated events display, which allows output from POLYCENTER Console
Manager, POLYCENTER Framework, and POLYCENTER System Watchdog to be
viewed in a single window
o A new menu-driven configuration utility which automatically collects site
configuration information, including equipment, systems, and storage
devices, and prompts the operator for only the missing information
o Symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) quorum adjustment
o Compatibility with the latest versions of many layered products,
including POLYCENTER Console Manager V1.6, POLYCENTER Framework V1.4, and
UCX V3.3
AVAILABILITY AND ORDERING
Business Recovery Server V1.4 is available now through Digital and its
business partners. The Consulting Services component is delivered solely
by Digital.
