PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Forte V2.0 advanced development environment simplifies and speeds the
process of creating mission-critical client/server applications. Forte
V2.0 helps software professionals develop, deploy, and manage these
applications, and realize productivity gains throughout the application
lifecycle. Applications developed with Forte V2.0 are independent of the
underlying computing environment, including hardware architectures,
operating systems, networks, graphical user interfaces, and databases.
Forte V2.0 separates the process of developing an application from
deciding where it will run. Forte developers create a logical
application, which Forte V2.0 then automatically divides into separate
partitions, each of which can run on a different node in a Forte
environment. From the partitioned application, Forte V2.0 generates an
application distribution that can be optimized for any number of target
deployment environments. Forte V2.0 provides the infrastructure to
support shared business rules and three-tier architectures.
Deployment of an application in a target environment is automated through
an advanced application management capability. Forte V2.0 also includes
robust distributed execution capabilities and management tools.
Multitasking, transactional-processing, failover, and load-balancing
mechanisms provide for high levels of application reliability and
performance.
Forte V2.0 supports 13 system platforms, including new support for
Windows NT Intel, Windows NT Alpha, and Sun Solaris, as well as updated
support for OpenVMS V7.0, Digital UNIX V3.0, Macintosh, PCs running
Windows 3.1 and Window 95 software, and UNIX systems from IBM, HP, Data
General, and Sequent. Forte V2.0 also supports eight database systems,
including new support for Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2/6000, Informix,
and ODBC drivers, with updated support for Oracle7, Oracle Rdb7, Sybase,
and DB Integrator products.
